Interior officials are not rich enough to buy positions: Boonjong

By The Nation

Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat on Wednesday dismissed the allegation that interior officials were

demanded to pay Bt10 million to Bt15 million in exchange for each appointment as provincial governor.

"The allegation is nonsense because interior officials don't have that much money," he said.

Boonjong rigorously denied the involvement of his Bhum Jai Thai Party in the bribery demands designed to replenish its campaign warchest.

He said the slow progress to replace 23 provincial governors, who are due for mandatory retirement this month, was attributed to the lengthy nomination process and not the bribery negotiations.

I am just waiting for a cartoon in any of the newspapers with him standing and proclaiming it doesn't happen because [the applicants] aren't rich, and then shuttles of wheelbarrows loaded with gold-bars passing behind him.

Hence they have to be corrupt and extort money from others in order to afford such positions - vicious circle, no?

Let’s fire all of them and replace them with some honest one if you can find any

Latest update; The 10 to 15 million was determined to be out of reach financially for some of the job seekers, so a pay as you go/deferred payment system will be considered. Interest will be calculated on the unpaid balance on a weekly point system. Those in default on a predetermined number of payments will be moved to a inactive post and a more financially responsible individual will be appointed as replacement. Using the initial method of selection of course.

They have less money to pay than those figures, so 'the negotiations' take more time.

No denial that the bribe negociations DO take place,

just that the figures stated are too high.

Hello, it is difficult to find enough wealthy people that want a position because most are busy with other things so it will take more time to nominate anyone. It is not enough to find someone that will agree with the policies of the government and pay the fee for the nomination, but they must deal with truth that people know what they did to get the position.
