How many PM does Thailand have and how many are left now. Every day I see few of the PM are dismissed. Do these PM get replaced fast and how? :)

Yet more messes on the floor. When are Thai legislators going to get to the business of governing?

Rather than wearing starched white Navy officers' uniforms (with fake pilots' wings) when getting their annual photo, they should wear stained and wrinkled hand-me-down jackets with clumsy patches - which would more likely fit the way they manifest in their roles.

Guess we can change the title to, EC Disqualifies 16 MP's.

16 MPs disqualified by EC

The Election Commission on Wednesday resolved to disqualify 16 MPs after finding them to have held shares in companies which have been granted a state concession. The 16 are among the total of 44 MPs investigated by the EC for allegedly holding shares in companies prohibited by the constitution.

They are Sunai Julapongsathorn, Sompol Keyuraphan, Panhathai Serirak, Uam Thongjaisod, Pairote Tanbanchong, Rangsan Wanchaithanawong, Preechapol Pongpanich, and Assani Cherdchai of the Puea Thai Party; Maliwan Tanyasakulkij, Sathit Thepwongsirirat, and MR Kittiwattana Pokmontri of the Puea Pandin Party; Kueakul Danchaiwichit of the Chart Thai Pattana Party; Treenut Thienthong and Sanoh Thienthong of the Pracharaj Party; and Boonjong Wongtrairat and Manit Nop-amornbodi of the Bhumjaithai Party.

Just a little surprised that there are no Democrats there.

Not meant as an attack on the dems, but given they have a large contingent in the parliament at least one of them could have stuffed up. Or did they have the rules explained to them and enforced that the rules will apply to them.

This is the second of disqualification. In this round, only one Dem was in the list of 44 MPs who were investigated by EC, and he got cleared. In the first round, more than a few Dem MPs got disqualified including Suthep. Hence, the by election in Surat Thani that we just saw.

So what are the scores on the doors Bruce?

This merry-go-round refuses to stop.

Why don't they submit their shareholdings and have them investigated BEFORE they are allowed to stand and enter the election process?

Indeed. One must ask, did they count on relax enforcement again?

And the scores from this round, for those that like to keep track:

8 Pheu Thai MP

3 Pheu Pandin

1 Chart Thai Pattana

2 Pracharat

2 Phum Jai Thai

Well played gentlemen.

And half are PTP.... Or their allies making more than 2/3

They don't seem to be able to read ANY laws, let alone make them.

Maybe a more fitting question; why do the democrats seem to be above any law. According to Bangkok Post, there was at least one democrat minister that where let of the hook because shares "too small". If anything have been learnt the past year and half its that NO case is too small when it comes to the opposition.

:D Please read what I posted in this thread at #8. :) (Maybe a more fitting question: why don't people bother making sure that they know what they are talking about before they even open their mouths?) And PS, that Dem MP was not the only MP who got cleared in this round...if you had bothered to pause and think, you would have seen that there were 28=44-16 other MPs who got cleared by the EC in this round. And those 27 MPs (already minus the Dem one) certainly were from all politcal parties.)

Yes it is a startling coincidence no Democrats were cited isn't it? Can't imagine why that would be as they all play the same games to get elected. Perhaps despite a long and sordid history of corruption and vote buying they have all suddenly turned honest? Seems the only plausible explanation.

Maybe read the whole thread and notice that whoever said no democrats was in the mess too was wrong, to avoid making yourself looking like a tool?

That more people from some parties are being disqualified cannot be the fault by any other than of themselves however...right?

Sanan: Disqualified MPs can remain in ministerial posts

BANGKOK, 10 August 2009 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister, Major General Sanan Kajornprasart, has confirmed that ministers who were disqualified by the Election Commission (EC) can remain in their posts.

Major General Sanan stated that the ministers could still work in the cabinet since the Constitutional Court had not yet judged the case. If they were found guilty according to the Constitution the Deputy PM said the ministers would only have to leave their MP posts, not the ministerial posts.

The 3 ministers who were disqualified by the EC due to their shareholding in concessionary businesses include Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat, Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nop-amornbodi and Deputy Transport Minister Kuakul Danchaiwijit.

Apart from the 3 ministers, Deputy PM Suthep Thaugsuban is another cabinet member who was disqualified by the EC on the same grounds. Mr Suthep earlier resigned from his MP post and was replaced by his brother Thani Thaugsuban.
