Vaccinations

Hi,

I am moving to Thailand in a few weeks to teach English, and am trying to figure out which vaccinations I should get. I will need Typhoid again within 6 months, and I have heard Japanese Encephalitis wouldn't be a bad one to get.

So first of all, I was wondering if it is easy to get these vaccinations in Thailand. And if so, are they very cheap? Here in Canada Typhoid is $70, and Japanese Encephalitis is $650.

Secondly, does anybody know how high the risk of the Japanese Encephalitis really is? I know the disease is something you don't really want to risk getting, but is it common enough to be worried about at all?

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

Today i rang up the travel clinic to cancel 1 rabbies and 1 Hep B, cos i guess £40 a shot is a bit much compared to thailand and since she said one shot is better than nothing when u need three, ill just find out about getting one shot in thaland...

so untill then i guess avoid unprotected contact with wild dogs and cheeky monkeys

I too would like info on where and how much previous to catching my flight next monday, ill be staying in pattaya mostly. a month.

E2A: ive had typhoid on the NHS, and i think the nurse said she was more conserned about hep B and rabies than meningococcal meningitis and Jap Encephalitis

Hepatitus A (2 total, works for 25 years)

Hepatitus B (3 total, works for 25 years)

Typhoid Fever (1 valid for 3 years)

DTP (3 total, works for 10 years)

The above are very much ok

Possible also Rabies, reaslly needed?????

I guess the lot will be cheaper in Thailand, ask around where to get.

Red Cross, University hospital, maybe State Hospital.

Private Hospital very expensive.

Paid for repeat Typhoid 250 baht in University Hospital in Khon Kaen

RAM hospital asked for 3000 baht.

A is easiest to catch, bad food handling, but once you catch it and get over it, you are rite for life.

B is a very diffefrent kettle of fish, catch it, and ya most likely have it for life.

I have hep blood tests every few years, just to see if immunity is still in my system.

80 Kiwi bucks a shot for combined A & B, 3 required, tri-monthly over 6 months.

SEX, unprotected, is a major precurser to catching either hep.
