Bike Sale Statistics 1st Quarter 2009, Australia

Hi folks, I provided some numbers on bike sales in another tread that weren't up to date, and where actually from 2 sources. I felt that I could have done better.

So some fresh data from the first 1st quarter of 2009 from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. This is just something for those interested in the numbers sold relating to Australia's 21 million population.

Interestingly the Kwaka Ninja 250R shows up as being a Best in several classes!

Total sales.. - 26,241 motorcycles, scooters and ATV's. Down 15.5% on same period last year.

Road bike.....- 10,794 units. Down 6.8% on same period last year.

Off-road......- 8644 units. Down 19.5% on same period last year. Includes ATV's

Top 3 brands

#1 - Yamaha.. with 5197 units.

#2 - Honda....with 4917 units. The Honda numbers are distorted somewhat by the inclusion of postie bikes that are purchased in bulk by the Post Office.

#3 - Suzuki...with 3763 units.

In the cruiser segment.

#1 - Harley Davidson with 1902 units.

#2 - Suzuki with 1834 units.

#3 - Honda with 1775 units.

Top selling scooter brands are Piaggio with 385 units and Vespa with 376.
