Foreigners living in Thailand are advised to obtain a Non-Immigrant visa, which can be extended up to one year by the Thai Immigration Bureau.

I extracted the above from the article on "visa crackdown" - Does this mean all Non Immg Visa can be extended by 1 year or are they simply talking about the "extension of NIV = married"??

They can be extended for 12 months for a variety of reasons.

Thai Spouse. Retirement. Work. Education etc.

Only with a qualifying reason . Not everyone.

Lite Beer are you talking of the standard extension each 12 months for someone that is on a Non Immg O (married) for example?

Just to ask a further question, my Visa extension is due at the end of the month. I was previously on a Non -IM B, now on my fourth extension. For some reason when I submitted my docs last year I lost a month on my visa. As it happens, my WP expires on the 24th Nov, whilst my visa expires on the 29th Sept. What exactly do I need to submit to get the new extension? My employer is extending my contract. I have normally done this through an agent, but was just going to do the visa extension myself. Any Advice please.

He is pointing out that marriage is not the only one year extension of stay possibility.

Ok with that in mind my Non Immg O (marriage) is valid until 26Nov09 now I will be returning to Thailand on 9Oct09 and have been back in Oz (medical) for the past 6 months except for a week in July (popped home to KK to cut the grass)- will this gap prevent me in any way from applying for an extension?

9Oct09arrive10Oct09 3 months approx 8Jan09 so do I apply for extension 2 weeks before end of visa (26Nov09) or 2 weeks before end of 3 month stamp 8Jan10? - Have never been down extension road have always applied for a new 12 months Non Immg with no probs.

You apply during the last 30 days of your 90 day stamp (mid December). You will need 400k in bank account in your name for 2 months or proof of 40k income.

That gap will not have any effect on your application for extension of stay.
