Dear Forum,

I hope to be moving soon, and there is a Tesco with Hygienic Vegetables. I believe Foodland also do Hygienic vegetables.

Can anyone explain exactly what this means?

I am particulalrly interested in knowing whether they are what I cal organic ie vegetables that are grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides. Can anyone help with this?

Hope you are keeping well,

All the Best,

BillZ

It's a good question. I don't speak Thai well and certainly can't read it but I did inquire thru a friend who asked the Tops Manager here in CM and apparently the vegetables are cleaned throughly with ozonated water and other techniques to kill pathogens etc. This would certainly help remove surface pesticides also. For the hygenic label they require certain farming practices. Also there is some increased testing to insure safety. As far as growing with fewer pesticides/fungicides then I was left unsure if there is much difference.

I can really tell the difference compared to buying veggies at the wet market. Often times I come home with wet market veggies and whoa can really smell manure odors etc. I scrub them and soak them in ozonated water but its a lot of work and I prefer to just buy the hygenic ones despite the higher price.

If I was cooking everything I would not care so much but I like a lot of raw produce so I really appreciate the option.

Not sure what Hygenic means when it comes to meats etc.

Anyone else dig into this? I am sure there is much more to know than what I have found.
