Sports Injury Specialist - Patellar Tendinitis

I am looking for a recommendation for a sports injury specialist in Bangkok. I have been suffering with what I am quite sure is Patellar tendinitis in my knees. It started about 3 months back and initially I went to Paolo Memorial Hospital where the doctor wasn't particularly helpful. He did agree it was most likely tendinitis and prescribed some anti-inflammatory pills. It seemed to only slightly relieve the problem. I have also been trying the RICE treatment (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) and have been using ice packs on my knees every hour or so in the evening when I get home.

Anyway, the problem persists and appears to be getting worse, it feels like my knees are seizing up in the mornings. I think I have tried all the common solutions including wearing knee supports but they don't seem up to the job (at 99 baht what do you expect). Needless to say I have not been exercising for a while which is getting me down.

So have any fellow posters suffered from this condition? I have decided to seek a specialist and actually was thinking of Bumrungrad but really think a sports injury specialist may be of more help. I imagine I need some decent meds along with some special supports for the tendons in my knees and no doubt after the lack of activity for 3 months I also need some physiotherapy. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also if anyone can reccomend a good shop where I can buy some decent knee supports and heel absorbers (if thats what they are called) would also be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Check out the topic on Sports Medicine Centre in Bangkok: " here . " Or search for it. I am flying down to Bangkok (from Chiang Mai) tonight to see Dr. Bavornrit Chuckpaiwong, who specializes in sports medicine. He works out of both Bumrungrad and Siriraj Hospitals (he runs a foot ankle and sports medicine clinic at the latter). I have an injured heel/ankle/Achilles tendon, but I imagine that he would still be the man to see at Bumrungrad for sports injuries to knees. In Chiang Mai we have a knee specialist, Dr. Chanakarn, mostly working out of Rajavej Hospital. I saw him once and thought he would be quite good, but more for knees than feet. He is the chief of sports medicine at Chiang Mai University.

I haven't seen the doctor in Bangkok yet, but I hope to soon! If you are in Bumrungard in the near future, come say hello!

Cheers,

Daniel
