Probably because most of the Thais around places like Pattaya are from Issan, hence have darker skin. Nothing to do with the fact that farangs like darker skin more, but just simply because there's a large proportion with darker skin.

And Thais don't like dark skin, because they think it makes them look like a poor, uneducated farmer from Issan.

Many whiteskinned thai gils that i meet complain over the fact that farangs dont like them. Seems to be a market out there....

Having had both dark n lighter girls i confirm life is easier in some ways with the lighter, educated girl but everything has pros n cons.

Dark skin, as in tanned, connotes and active and healthy lifestyle for a Westerner, running, playing, athletics, hiking, all outside.

Dark skin for many Asian cultures I've been exposed too indicates lower level, labourer lifestyle, poverty, etc.

Pale skin on the other hand for a Westerner suggests much time indoors: rich snob? superficial?

You are 100% right. Those who work out-door (the labour-class) have darker skin. The others works in offices etc., and are more upper-class. You had exactly the same thing in the UK, when Victoria was the queen.

Thais ask me this question all the time and i am unable to give any satisfactory answer.

I say, "why don't thais like darker shades of skin ?" they say it looks dirty, and are amazed at why farangs are attracted to dark skinned females. truly amazed. and they seem to think or expect me to have the answers.

does anyone have an explanation for this (perhaps false) perception ? BTW this sterotype that farangs love dark skin is huge, up there with the walking ATM stereotype.

When all is said and done, regardless of the perceived social status of either shade, darker-skinned people - like myself - tend to withstand the ravages of time far better than lighter-skinned folks.

One can't really blame some Thais for wanting to be whiter any more than one can blame whites in, say, England wanting to be darker because the beauty industry is remarkably adept at selling the insecure and easily-influenced an "ideal" image they cannot possibly achieve permanently.

I like whichever Thai girl has an open mind,is caring, friendly,smart and not judgmental...whatever her skin color. IMHO,so far in my personal experiences over four years,the lovely dark skinned maidens have the edge. Have a nice day.

Dark skin besides being sexy hids scars, marks and blemishs better then the pale skin.

If it came to a hard call that your babe had to get your back with the spare machete then I would take the dark girl every time. Dark girls generally kick arse .
