Neighbor just returned from visa run KL Malaysia in minibus cost 4500 baht, taken to a office(not embassy), they take your passport and for a fee of 4900 baht for 3 month visa and 6900 baht for 12 month visa they go to the Thai embassy for you and get the visa stamp in your passport and it only takes 1 hour, sounds like a real bargain to me.I wonder what happens when they do there 90 day report or attempt to leave Thailand where immigration use computers.

Its illegal to have a thai visa issued in KL without meeting in Embassy in person, according to posters in KL Embassy.

KL embassy does not have visastamps. they issue official visa stickers in passport

Why would anyone go to KL in a minibus at 4500 baht, when airasia roundtrip is less than 2500 baht?

Are you sure of this.. Its long been standard practice to use agents in Penang.. Seems strange that its so different.

Grand total is 4500 + 6900 = 11400

I take AirAsia (1320 bht round trip) stay 2 days one night in KL (950 bht hotel + food + transportation) and get my 1 year non B at less than 5000 bht (including the temporary wife for the night I stay there).

Futhermore, as I do go myself to the Embassy, if any problem I can try to fix it immedialty, I am sure my sticker is legal and that I did comply to the rule of the country where I live (Thailand); and I do have some vacations (monday afternoon - tuesday morning untill 11am)

For more than half the price of your firend, and without blatantly breaching the law (at opposite to your friend) I believe my bargain is better than his. And as my company at the end give me back the cost, the only real cost is the temporary wife LOL.

On the other hand, I do understand your friend certainly do not want to mix with scumbag like me, is scrare to take dangerous planes, do not want to waist time in the Embassy, nor is willing to comply with rules/laws who are obviously only for servum pecus and not for HI SO people as your friend (as he is blantantly cheating the regulations he certainly think those regulations are for others by not for someone important like him). I also do understand than being inside a minivan for several hours is certainly far better than a flight of 1 hour and then a rest at hotel.

Absolutely sure what the posters state in KL. Been there 4 times a year for some years, last time mid august.

Could have changed since. But if so, why pay 4900 or 6900 for something costing 1900 or 3900 multiple entry one year? Hazzlefree if proper docs, illegal if docs not proper.

I believe Penang have other rules as independent, not run by thai government

The problem is the title is misleading. 'Visa application in KL no problem' would be better, this has nothing to do with visa extension and is also not in Phuket.

I have the feeling though it was in Penang, not KL? Makes more sense regarding the local visa rules, plus by minibus to KL in stead of Penang?

visa extension?

in phuket?

title is A BIT misleading

Whats your problem, its where people from phuket can go for a visa and for some pay less than they do in phuket.

I think he's pointing out that it's neither a visa extension, nor is it in Phuket, but rather a new visa issued in Malaysia according to the OP, so that's the confusion.

Peter, this is illegal, and not recommended. The visa was applied for in Malaysia BTW, Kota Baru.

I did not say it was legal and the town in Malaysia is KOTA BAHARU, is paying 30000 baht in phuket legal.

A few years ago there was a service that would allow you to stay in Phuket, while they took your passport for a "visa run".  Quite a few people got pinched and found themselves in big trouble and being labeled as persona non grata.  Caveat Emptor.

You may not have said it was legal, but you're giving people information here about the possibility. I would highly recommend against doing this.

Kota Baru or Kota Baharu, depends on who writes it, lots of different spelling for the same name in the area. I'm surprised you know the name now, first you mentioned KL.

Paying 30,000 Baht could be legal, depends on what they do. Sounds like a rip off though.

From what i have been told the people operating this service will soon be doing the same thing.

Actually i cant see how it can be legal, but people doing it say it is, i do everything legally myself and have never had a problem getting an extension of stay, if its not legal i have no problem telling people so, if you read the previous posts you will see i corrected it from KL.

Illegal is not the correct term.. Visas are issued by the embassy / consuls discretion.. Where one embassy wont issue a non imm another might, doesnt make the issuing of that non imm illegal, just means they apply different standards.

I would be baffled why anyone would pay those fees unless it was to process the application without the normal standards that embassy applies being adhered to.

As most expats know.. Theres ways to get almost anything done without leaving the country at all.. That one is illegal (visa issued while your in Thailand, passport crossing borders without you, the list goes on) but blame the officials that profit from it not the customers.

EDIT ::: Later posts made it clear that the person wasnt leaving the country.. But even so those prices are not far shy of the actual non imm visa application price !!

Well the 1 year non imm costs 105 GBP in UK now.. I have no idea what they actually charge in Penang..

Not crossing the border with it would make it illegal but crossing at sadao and stopping 1km inside Malaysia and it would be legal.

Dp you mean that the punters are blissfully unaware of the illegality of sending their passports abroad for a visa without them physically being there themselves ? The use of Penang based agents doing the running for you while you are in Malaysia is an altogether different thing. ie. it's legal. Like in the west, ignorance of the Thai law is no defence in a Court of Law.

There's alot of going back and forth on this thread but if anyone is considering giving their pasport to a third party to take over the border to obtain a NonImmO, please, please, please don't. It is illegal and if caught you'll be hauled up to Bngkok as I was in 2002 and believe me its a tad embarrassing.

One small thing, You can't do the 90 day reporting on a visa issued outside Thailand. Except if it is a retirement visa.

For all other visa's issued outside Thailand the person have to do a visa run every 90 day's.
