Absolute nonsense - if you have a legal motorcycle you can obtain insurance for theft.

Unless of course it's an unregistered 'Big bike', Porobor only.

If its a large bike - not sure. Just got theft insurance for my wifes 115cc bike. It was 2000 baht for 1 year 2500 baht for 2 years. Only get 80 percent back in the first year and 40 or 50 percent in the 2nd year. For the cost - its better than nothing.

It does not matter if the bike is small or big, if it is unregistered it is illegal to ride.

Lots of people will tell you lots of things but in Thailand the reality is that although you will find someone to sell you a policy, you still will not have the insurance that you assume that you have bought. If the bike is stolen, you will be expected to prove that it has been stolen and its absence from where you say you left it does not count as proof. Even if you can pass this stage you will not get any money as they will now need to wait to see if it turns up... It probably will in about 6 months but not as a usable motorbike that you would want back, but this is Thailand and it is now your bike again even it arrives back in a box... You will be left wondering what you paid all those premiums for. Do I sound bitter? I am because this has just happened to me.
