I am going to do the retirement thing next visa renewal, but my Indonesian partner will still have problems re. visa for Thai.

If we get married - in Spain, or whatever, will Thai immigration recognise this for visa purposes?

Unfortunately a gay marriage is not recognised in Thailand. Your partner will have to find for his own reasons under which he can stay in Thailand.

A possibility is studying in Thailand.

Yes, there is no recognition of gay marriages by the Thai government.

I have a related, somewhat academic question, follow this scenario:

Couple gets married in the Netherlands, a man and a sex changed M to F transsexual who has legally changed her passport to show female.

Would the Thai immigration THEN recognize this couple as a legally married couple under Thai law?

If the country where the sex change person resides issues a new birth certificate and/or passport showing them to be female, and they have a valid marriage document from another country, I don't see how Thai immigration would ever know there was a sex change.

I think you are probably right. So, you see, Thailand does recognize gay marriage, they just don't know it ...

If there was a sex change, with official documents (PP) verifying it, it would no longer be a same sex marriage.

Does anyone know what sex would be put on a Thai passport in the case of a sex change?

Thailand does not recognize sex change - you remain what your birth certificate says you were born.

Not that I am game for any cutting, but are you sure about that? I have heard differently, that these days sex changed Thais at least can get ID's with their new sex. Whether that would also apply to passports I don't know. I am not certain, just asking.

For the purpose of the argument, Thailand does not even legally recognize defacto/common law M/F relationships for visa purposes.

Correct, but you neglected to mention that the M/F couples at least have a choice that could make them legal.

I wonder how I got my several Non O visas by claiming my relationship with my defacto??, and producing her passport showing her as a single lady.

As an indonesian national he is a resident of an ASEAN member country, check this out, shouldn't not be to difficult.

If you believe that gives freedom to live in another country you are very wrong. Some even require prior visa for entry. None, other than Malaysia, get any visa exempt break more that most countries.

Passport required.

- Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid

for at least 6 months upon arrival.

Visa required, except for A touristic stay of max. 30 days:

I understand that things are changing re same sex couples. I am non Thai and my (civil) partner is Thai. We currently live in the uk but are planning to move to Thailand in 6-7 years to live. He's made enquries about this (while we were there last month) and there are changes coming re recognition. When I know more will post details

I am just wondering what the latest news is on this topic.I am legaly married in the state of California to a Thai national. His family wants us to move to Thailand so I was wondering if I could apply for a marriage visa.

A gay marriage is not recognised by Thailand, so you could not reside in Thailand based on being a family member of a Thai national. You will need to qualify on other grounds, such as working or retirement (over 50).
