Just want to confirm with the gurus here.

Got a friend back in PDX who's coming out here next month and plans to apply for a Retirement Extension of his Non-O visa. I've suggested that he get a single entry three-month Non-O there in Portland for $65, then apply for the extension after two months.

However he thinks he might want to go up to Laos during the 90 days and is considering a multiple entry Non-O for $175 (note, his prices, not mine).

I think he can come in on the three-month Non-O, and get a single Re-Entry permit for baht 1,000, which'd cover him OK, and save a $$$ or three.

That right?

Yes he could do that.

A 12 month multi-entry offers more flexibility though IMHO, he won't have to rush his retirement extension as he will have a year to do it and in the meantime can come and go as he pleases. He will have to leave the country at least every 90 days though (border hopping is fine).

Depends on his plans really, but your option is cheaper if he doesn't plan to travel much. If he wants to travel around alot in his first year he will need a multiple re-entry permit which is 3,800 baht.

Swings........or roundabouts?

Litebeer, thx.

QED, I also thought of that and that's what I did for a number of years, until I got tired of travelling on my passports schedule. So I converted to the Retirement extension, with a multiple re-entry permit, and come and go when I want. Since February, have been to the U.S. once, Laos three times, and probably one or two more Lao trips to go.
