13 crew members missing after Thai fishing boat sinks in Malaysia water

PATTANI: -- Thirteen crew members are missing following the sinking of a Thai fishing boat in Malaysian waters due to monsoon-related rough seas on Friday.

According to reports, waves as high as 3 to 5 metres hit the boat, the Pornpitsanu 91 (Sirichokchai 2), with 26 crewmen on board after it had left Pattani to receive fish from another trawler anchored in Malaysian waters.

The boat capsized and the crew attempted to stay afloat, but by the time another Thai fishing boat came to the site and was able to rescue 13 men, who are now safe. But 13 other crew members remain missing.

The Pattani Fishery Association is coordinating with agencies concerned in both Thailand and Malaysia to ask for assistance in searching for the missing crew members.
