This might be a funny story, were it not for the fact that the implications are potentially serious for some:

I've had a "mole" on my calf for some years and a couple of months ago it started to get larger and to itch - right I thought, time for you to be gone. Eventually went to see the doc at Pattaya Phuket Hospital who said she would have to cut it out and send it off for a biopsy so an appointment was duly made. Events overtook my scheduled appointment and I found myself in Bangkok and thought I would short circuit things by getting the work done there - again, the doctor said, I'll have to cut it out, stitch you up and wait for the biopsy report. Sadly and ironically my plans changed, once again at short notice, and two days ago I found myself in Chiang Mai taking care of some long standing business when it occurred to me that I might go and see the good doctors at Chiang Mai Ram and finally get the damned mole removed. The skin doctor at Ram is a delight and as I told her my sad tale she asked to see the mole, at which point she said, that's a wart, not a mole, I'll freeze it off and the job was done for 600 baht and ten minutes later I was on my way.

So, many questions here, to which I don't expect answers here, but perhaps something to ponder about - quality of care, knowledge of the doctors, cost versus care and so on. Personally the entire affair has left me feeling nervous about the state of skin doctors in Thailand.

Do you recall her name? I think she also works in the small clinic on Huay Kaew Rd on Wednesday and Saturday nights. If it's same doctor I think she is highly regarded in town.

You would think a sunny country like Thailand and they would be top notch for skin lesions.

If its a wart it should have a grainy look and usually harder feel. The center frequently has pinpoint black spots that represent areas of bleeding within the wart. This is one of the hallmarks of a wart.

Also when they biopsy a removed lesion they often call it precancerous but that is deceptive to the non trained and is just a rating system for a dysplasia and is often misused.

Good information and thanks for posting.

I would also be interested in the Doc's name. I have a couple of large ones on my leg and have been planning to have it taken care of for some time now.

I apologize that I don't remember her name but from what I understand she is the resident skin doctor at Ram - quite young with excellent English and very easy on the eye (!), her office is in the Skin Clinic which is a part of the specialty clinics on 5th (?) floor, appointments from 09:00 to 15:00. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
