Nearly squashed by a truck last night and was saved by the fact i saw the row of green lights they sometimes have approaching and moved to the hard shoulder.

Are the green lights a legal requirement here?

Usually just for decoration, however another reason for them is to identify a Truck - or rather a Trucking Company / Owner - as having paid his regular "contribution" to the local Police so they will not be harassed.

During the day various Stickers on the Truck, or Pennants / coloured cloths on radio antenna etc. are the usual signal, but at night they are not so easily visible.

They will often have a zillion of those lights on and all in perfect working condition... except for the brake lights of course.

Chrismas trees on wheels. :o

I'm all for it.Gives me time to take an appropriate avoidance strategy.i.e two wheels on the grass verge and two on the hard shoulder. :o

I would say that on an average forty kilometre journey i would be forced out of lane two or three times. Is it just me or is that about average?
