Hi

I have just entered Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa. My plan was to apply for retirement Visa, but I understand that I need to

convert the tourist visa to a Non immigrant O visa. I am a Danish citizen married to a Thai. Do I need the 800 K in the bank.

What are the procedure.

Thank you in advance for any help.

You can convert to a Non O Visa if you have at least 21 days remaining and you qualify for the 12 month extension.

For retirement 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 65,000 Baht monthly income or a combination of both.

For marriage to a Thai Lady. 400,000 Baht in the bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income.

After 2 months you then apply for the 12 month extension.

Or you can apply for a Non O Visa in a neighbouring country and then apply for the extension.

Thank you for your quick reply, its a great help. Do you know if the marriage certificate need to be stamped by the embassy

in Bangkok when applying for the non O based on marriage to a Thai.

Retirement is less hassle and paperwork if you can qualify. As for marriage certificate (using marriage rather than retirement) if Thai it and the registration document/extract from the district office would be required. If foreign needs to be in English or Thai and legalized which likely will involve your Embassy (but exact process varies).
