Personally I like Tesco Lotus. Food and appliances are on normal standards BUT I love there food court! Which pulls me to TESCO to shop.... on the other hand my girlfriend thinks BIGC is the Best! Bigger, better more products to choose from in all catergories...Also thinks the food courts better! Which comes to my topic, Which do you prefer? and why? For meat i use Foodland, a bit more expensive than other stores but you only get what you pay for. The worste meats, poor service and empty check out tills can be found at Big C. I have to say in 15 years I'd never used a food court in a supermarket until relatively recently when I was in Tesco and starving hungry. Pleasantly surprised. I prefer a combiation of Makro and local markets. We don't have BigC or Carrefour so my options are limited but if the local market doesn't sell what I want I can usually get it at Makro. Meridian007 Posted October 20, 2009 Share Posted October 20, 2009 Tesco for everyday stuff as their prices are good, but for fresh meat and vegetables I prefer Topps with an occasional drop-in to Paragon gourmet market for any Farang stuff that can't be found elsewhere. Never go to bigC or Tesco for daily shopping, they just don't have enough Continental European food. I go seldom to Villa Market they are just too expensive compared with the same products in Foodland or Tops. BTW I never eat Thai food at home. Carrefore is OK for Food but was not so good for me when I go for Electrical appliances. Example... Got my large floor fan home, it was half of a red one, and the other half was green. Bought a rice cooker, got it home, a huge dint in the side of it. Went to buy a Washing Machine, the one I wanted was not in stock, I asked about 7 more, they also were not in stock. I was eventualy offered a badly dinted one with some reduction. I walked out and went to Tesco and got the exact one I wanted first, and a little cheaper as well. Was the same when I went for a new Television, out of stock... Like I say, I think Carrefore is OK for food but there Electrical appliances are never in stock, its like they only have what is on the shop floor, to get you interested so they can offer you damaged ones. They also have a better organized foreign food department that either of the other places. I've also had good experiences buying appliances at Carrefour but it is limited to Bangkok outlets (esp. Rama IV). The personnel generally fill out the warranty cards for you and send them in vs. other places that simply hand you the card so you can struggle filling them out. Big C is a nice place but somehow harder to find convenient outlets. I find Lotus conveniently located but think the product quality seems to be lower than either Carrefour or Big C. Quality is head n shoulders above the generic ones (as well as Tops) and there's minimal riff raff. Out of the three I'd have to go with Carrefour for the choice, look, and because of the side distractions. Reckon BigC is the worst, although Makro is way behind again. Big C also good for basics - I see little difference in price between all the big hypers? But if I want a good deli, bakery or something 'ferrang' then it's Central Foodcourt (Tops) for me .... but you need their 'Spot' discount card to get a near normal price. Come on doctor! have you tried the " bah mee moo ddang heng " or " Kao man gai " I enjoy eating in tescos the price is right Thai`s seem to not mind... to them its not the best but it ain`t shit....kin dai kin dai, she would always say... The best quality food I find for me at a super market are Top or BigC Central Pinklaow, it was really down for long time, as soon as Lotus open next door a total renovation where made, good product there. I like Carrefour, and the big C in sapankwai is good too Lotus will be my less favorite Villa market sold me few time some ham and product who were off and they change the expire dates sticker, they lost my business Sometime I go to Macro, they have frozen blueberry, and smoked salmon there Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I never eat Thai food anywhere, except for a few selected dishes in upmarket 3 star plus hotels, the reason being that generally the Thai cooking process is too unhealthy, the ingredients too spicy, and the smell too overpowering, which results into bad breath and moreover, into bad body odour caused by perspiration, a common occurrence in a tropical climate. As for the above mentioned supermarkets they all offer a good selection of goods, it all depends on one's individual choice as to who is the favourite. Yes...Very true. Tesco are trying to build one in Chumpae....which will really effect the local small businesses... Tesco are looking to put one in Phu Wiang also. Banners and outcry from the locals. Anyway, I find Tesco better for meat etc and electrical stuff. Makro OK for electrical. Not used Big C for a long time. I use the local market for veg'. I try to shop local as much as possible, I have seen what walmart did to small storeowners in the states. The fruits & veggies are a better quality in my mooban, and cheaper to boot.
