If you are entering Northern Ireland you will require a UK visa as a Tourist, Southern Ireland has its own rules so to speak.

If you are holding a UK passport/Irish also and your partner was your wife you could possibly exercise your treaty rights and apply for an EU/Family permit however as this is not the case but a little more information is required ?

Maximum tourist Visa your Gf can get for here is 3 months. Beyond that you would need to register with the local police - nhow easy that is to do in reality I would not like to say.

You will need to show big funds, accomadation, and a return ticket. They may even ask for you to provide health insurance for that length of time. It is not a normal 2 week holiday.

I can tell you this as some of my wife's relations came from Thailand last xmas for 3 months. They are very rich but I still got a call from immigration at Dublin Airport to confirm everything they had told the officer. They provided everything I outlined above and it was no problem.

Depends on the circumstances, found an Irish visa a lot more easier than a UK one, but I guess the circumstances were different in each case.

Are the Visa 6 month or 3 month?

The two visa's we received were for three months and seven weeks respectively, Heaven knows where the seven week period came from??

I agree with the Moss man, Irish Visas are easier to obtain than UK ones.

Please be advised there are two types of visas type C and type D. C is short time up to 3 months and is not extendible. D is long term will only be obtained after 2 trips on tourist visa or multiple entry.Partner visa after every 3 months sign up with the Garda COPS.

Yes you must show funds approx €5000 to €10000 is appropriate this is unwritten but from experience I know.

+supply sponsor letter, medical even for tourist visa.

It is my girlfriend and it willl be southern Ireland.

Im holding a UK passport, although my mother is Irish?

I want to apply for a UK visa for her to visit me but things may change and I may end up in Ireland for a new job, so therefore will need a Irish visa for her if thats possible under the circumstances.

I noticed for a first time tourist visa 3 months is the length of time an applicant can stay, whats the rule for reapplying for a visa wait 9 months? Also how easy are the student visas to obtain, any experience on those?

The first visa my girlfriend got was for 1 month only, the second one was for 3 months. The problem should be eased now as we were married last year.

Personally I found the Irish visa harder to get than the English one. Things may be simplified a little now that applications have to be done on-line, but one still has to go into the Consulate in BKK.

Good luck anyway.

It will change soon for Asian Students.

The longest that they can study English for will be 2 years.

Any other Degree course etc will be 5 years.

Is it possible to do a 3 month tourist visa and then immediately do a student visa? What are the pre reqs for a student visa other than the monetary side for example to do a basic English course?

You cannot change visa status inside Ireland. So make sure you come with the appropriate visa.

www.inis.gov.ie has everything you need. Go to "Visas" on the left and then scroll down to "student visa guidelines"

I mean is it possible enter with a tourist visa leave the country for a short period and come back and with tourist?

You have to register with your local Garda Imigration Office before you can get a re-entry visa for Ireland.

Whether you can do that with a tourist visa I d'ont know, as the tourist visa is single entry. You would need to contact Dublin and ask that specific question.

Maybe you should get an Irish pasport? If you have an Irish mother you are entitled to apply for an Irish passport. I got one recently due to my grandmother being Irish: I still have my UK passport.

Being Irish and married to a Thai Woman I would say the major difference between gaining and Irish Visa and a UK one is the volume of UK/ Irish people, Obviously there is more people from the UK looking for visas so you can expect a more rigorous process. But I do believe that once all the proper procedures are in place, and everything is done by the book there should be no problem. The Thai Visa Service is a little bit french, and likes the bureaucratic side of things well organized. But I think personally, because I was prepared, it made life a lot easier, and I have to say that I was treated well and I was quite taken by the people working in the Irish embassy in the Q lumphini tower in Bangkok where the Irish embassy is at. Anyway this is my first post and I would be more than delighted to help with any other queries you may have and hope you can answer a few of mine. Best regards Keithoven
