Pattaya garbage collection still a huge problem

Member, chaired a meeting at Pattaya City Hall, he is the Chairman of the Pattaya Cleanliness Board, with officials and complaining local residents, unhappy with the present arrangements for the collection and disposal of waste.

Pattaya creates in excess of 350 tons of rubbish each day, an ever increasing problem that needs to have a permanent solution. Pattaya City Hall has a project to develop a Waste Recycling Plant that will be able to environmentally friendly dispose of 300 tons per day, however, the project is still in the planning stage and many more studies need to be undertaken before a final solution can be agreed upon.

The new plant would need a huge budget, and with the Pattaya City Hall and Chonburi Provincial Administration already having had their budgets cuts by 60-70%, the studies seem further away, let alone the actual construction. However, good news if it comes to fruition, the Environmental Protection Resort Company (Thailand) Ltd, have agreed to invest 3 billion baht to make the dream a reality, let’s hope their budget doesn’t get cut!

Waste disposal is an ever increasing problem, and growing daily, the present waste site located in the Khaomaikaew area can only deal with 200 tons of rubbish a day, nowhere near the requirements of Pattaya City.

Local residents were on hand to complain about the smell from the garbage collection trucks as they make their collections around the city. The EMW East West Management Company has been hired by Pattaya City Hall as the town’s existing garbage contract expires on 31st March 2010. This is a very important and urgent problem that needs immediate solutions.
