My Little Man

Featured Replies

I've been here for over five years and last monday my girlfriend gave birth to my son ( not being big headed but he is fuc_kin da <deleted>) anyway when we went to register da birth they said that he could only have a Thai name as a first name, how do go about sorting that out cos i wanna take him home next year and not sure of the passport issues, any help?

The Thai name is a bit questionable. They want a name in Thai script as they will register his name in Thai script. When registering the birth of your child with your own country you can use his name in English.

They will also want the name of the father and mother in Thai script.

Edit:

Almost forgot: Congratulations!

First name should be thai, but second christian name can be any odd farang one that you fancy.

Both of them have to be on the birth certificate, which can never be altered outside a thai court.

Any proper thai hospital will do this for you, and it must be signed by the doctor

who delivered your baby.

Make sure that the thai first name is translitterated into english on the birth certificate, so you don't run into to problems obtainig the dual farang passport.

Been there, believe me.

First name does not have to be Thai.

My daughter is called Angela. Not a Thai name!

Quite Right Scouse My son too Only one name Daniel

Our new born son has an English first name, Thai second name - just registerd the birth in Sydney - no problems.

As Mario implied, there is probably a miscommunication. The will want the name written in Thai. My two have European names.

If they indeed are insisting on a 'proper' Thai name, stand your ground and get them to show you the rule book as to where it is not possible.
