I am wondering if there is any way around a criminal record check if i want to live in thailand. I am married to a thai and have the money for the marriage visa. my concern is that if i go, after 3 years in thailand, for the residency visa, that they will do a record check. I do have a record and there is outstanding investigations on me, but no warrent for arrest. Can i stay in thailand on the 1 year marriage visa if i renew it every year or is there a limit on the 3 years?....Also i am 95% sure they dont do a record check on the marriage visa, does anyone know about this?

Only time criminal record is needed is when applying for an O-A visa outside of Thailand.

Inside Thailand they have no way to check you or are interested (except if wanted by Interpol).

I have lived in three countries before moving here.

How is Thai immigration to know where I have lived.

Also in the countries where I have resided they only can make a record check if the person himself applies for it.

As said, no problem, as is not required inside Thailand. Obtain single entry Non-O visa from embassy/consulate where you are which will give you 90 day permission to stay on entry. In last 30 days apply at Thai immigration for 12 month extension of stay based on marriage to Thai if you meet the requirements - 400k in Thai bank for 2 months prior to application or 40k/month income. Keep renewing every year.

You can stay on an extension of stay based on marriage, as long as you are marrried and meet the income/money in the bank requirement. As said, there is no criminal record check. Only if you would want to go the way of trying to get permanent residency would you need to produce a criminal record check.

You can touch your money.

It only has to be in the bank 2/3 months before your extension.

A teaching job requires a criminal record check.

but i need the money 2-3 months before applying for the extension. i need the extention every year = i need that 400k every year.

who does the criminal record check when trying to teach? is it the school or immigration?

The idea is to spend some or all of the money and top it up again 3 months before you next application.

i would love to top it up again if i knew where the top up was coming from. but i am uncertain about the future and i think my best option is to leave the money in the bank.

so about the teaching jobs... who does the criminal record check? is it a waste of money to take that course ($1400)? is my best option to teach freelance at home and forget the course and teachers licence?

If you are a known criminal and are on Interpol records, or if you have entered Thailand before and committed a crime, then you would have your records in their data base. If you have never been charged for a crime, there's no record on you.

For visa applications, they would merely judge you like they judge any farang, whether

you have sufficient funds and that the marriage is not a marriage of convenience!

Why not wait and let the Legal system run its course Then go from there, The trouble is in Thailand you are OK while you are getting away with it , but some one will soon report you if they find out your past,

You can get a TEFL course for about $600 or less when you get to Bangkok.

If you realy want to teach, loook inthe teaching section for more info on your possibilities.

Teaching free-lance at home would still require a work permit.
