Rimmer Posted November 2, 2009 Share Posted November 2, 2009 Pattaya, November 2 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Following a tip-off received by Police, an operation involving three separate Police Divisions took place in the early hours of Monday Morning inside Soi 14 off the Pratamnuk Road at the Encore Bar and Hotel which was thought to be hosting Casino Nights on the second floor of the venue. Police from the Immigration Office, Pattaya Police Station and the National Human Trafficking Crime Suppression Unit from Bangkok were involved in the operation which resulted in the arrest of 8 foreigners and 2 Thai nationals who were suspected of organizing and participating in casino nights. Police stormed the second floor and found a custom-made casino card table and each of the 8 foreigners was in possession of casino chips. Around 120,000 Baht in cash was also found as was boxes of more casino chips and decks of cards. Police took the 5 Finnish, 2 Swedish and 1 Israeli suspected gamblers to the Immigration Office in Jomtien along with the seized items and each of the arrestees was charged with gambling and Khun Pornpansar aged 27 was additionally charged with allowing the Casino to operate in her premise. I just can't understand how they are as stupid as this... 8 friends playing poker caught by the police??? There is more to this story! Fell sorry for the owner who got arrested if she did not know about the game! Rule 1-- Bribe the police if you do something that is not leagal (BEFORE THEY CATCH YOU)... The Immigration police were tipped off by someone in Pattaya about the venue , they had been watching the place for around three weeks and raided as allready reported.In total around 12 officers were involved in the raid with the sole aim of making an example of the unfortunate few caught up in it . All attempts of "tea money " were refused and the officers involved wanted to prosecute under the law of running and being in an ilegal casino wich carries a very much more severe penalty than just gambling with cards. After the raid the suspects were taken to immigration in Jomtien ( in handcuffs and chains around their legs belive it or not ! ) held there for several hours and then transferred to soi 9 police station. They were there untill there court date , the court fined them 1500thb and has put them on probation for 12 months ( any incidents with the police within the next year and they wil automaticaly be deported without the option of appeal ) unofficially it cost them each 50,000 thb . With the help of one of the few in the end became just a gambling illegally charge , however if not for one of the accused having "friends" the charge would of stuck as an example and warning to all other foreigners gambling in Thailand ( there aim was to make an example of these guys )wich for one of them was a minium of 5 years jail . And in his own words " I owe this man my life ". A sorry Tale , but it just goes to prove that although the laws here tend to be looked at as " flexible " when the powers that be decide not to be , they will come down on you to the FULL extent of the law regardless of any " offers ". I for one am relieved that this is now over and peoples lives are not going to be destroyed for playing a game of cards. P.S Anyone for a game of Hi - Low ?
