Autism

my sister in laws lovely little two year old boy has been "diagnosed" as having autistic spectrum. i say "diagnosed" because he has only just started to be tested , but the doctors are pretty sure he is exhibiting autistic behaviour , tests over the next week will probably confirm the initial diagnosis.

a couple of weeks ago , there was a thread about autism and one hospital in bkk was mentioned as possibly having some experience in treating autism.

does anybody know of any hospitals or doctors or pediatricians that specialise in this.

does anybody have any experience of any of these places and of the treatment / therapy that is given.

thanks for any information that anybody thinks might be useful.

I'm a psychologist(license by the California Board of Psychology, USA) with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and extensive experience working with children with autism and families using the DIR/Floortime Model(as well as ABA -- but I have moved away from that model for 3 years now). I provide in-home therapy as well as family consultation. My fees are quite high but I do provide intensive therapy as well as parent consultation. Please contact me if you are interested. Actually, contact me anyway. I do have resources and connections that will be useful to you regardless. :)

anybody know anything about treatment for autism or parent support groups here in bkk ??????????

Hi, there is no cure for autism and my son will always be autistic. This is not a easy place to bring up a special needs child due to a lack of practical help and a schooling system which is not designed to cater for children with special needs. However if your child is "high functioning" I would recommend contacting Mark Godwin (metafonbkk.com) and having a chat as he works with my son.

I believe that children can be recovered from autism if they receive early intervention. My son started the intensive intervention since he was 20 months and he is now fully 3 y.o. Even though he isn't yet fully recovered, but we believe that day will come soon. PM me if u need any info on both biomedical therapy and traditional therapy which is ABA therapy, I am willing to share everything I know.

Early intervention is essential and can make all the difference. My son started early intervention ABA at the age of 3 and is now fully verbal, socially adept and in mainstream education. As such, I set up a company in Thailand (Simply ABA) providing ABA services to families with child on the Autistic Spectrum. It really can make all the difference.
