Good guess, Explorer, but I wonder what the real figure is? (Only 2 dead in Phuket? Amazing!).

Precisely right RDN....

Songkran was a deadly affair on the country’s roads, but somewhat less so than last year, the Interior Ministry said yesterday in presenting figures of road casualties for the 10-day holiday period.

This year, 522 people died in road accidents as against 654 in 2004. Only half as many people, 16,395, were injured compared with last year’s 36,642.

Yet a source at the Public Health Ministry questioned the accuracy of the figures. “So far as we know, over 100 deaths have not yet been added to the count because provincial authorities do not wish to put the deaths on record for fear that their performance in accident prevention might not look good,” the source said.

so who wins King of Songkran 2005 when we revise the actual total to 622??

Might not look good?

I heard on the radio before songkran that the gov't was offering bonuses police departments in the "safest" communities.

It's about the money for sure!
