Fire At The Siam Society

Featured Replies

Early this morning (Friday 20 November) there was a fire at the Siam Society, which destroyed the office and shop, and damaged part of the library. Fortunately there were no casualties.

As a result, no phone or Internet connections are currrently working. Staff are currently busy assessing the damage and making recovery plans, but if you need to contact the Society urgently you can call a member of staff on the mobile phone numbers show to below.

Latest update from siam-society.org:

Buildings affected:-

Shop and office:- Destroyed. It will take a few weeks before all the normal admin functions are resumed.

Library:- Suffering from smoke and water damage. The library will be closed for a few weeks while things are cleaned up and dried out.

Auditorium, Sengaroon House, Kamthieng House:- Not affected, functions in these buildings will continue as normal.

The lecture on 26 November by Jamshed K. Fozdar has been postponed and we will try to reschedule it for a later date.

It is always such a shame when a library gets damaged.

This is a shame. Lots can be learned by going to a place like this :)
