Taxi From Thanaleng Station To Vientiane

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Was just wondering if anyone has takin a Taxi from Thanaleng Train station just across the Friendship Bridge into Vientieane, and if so ,How much was it? Going by overnight train to Nong Khai, then taking the new train service to Thanaleng station next month. My Hotel in Vientieane wants to charge me 400 baht each way, which I think is a bit over the top. Also my Thai girlfriend is going along as well. She has a passport but if she uses that, will she be charged with the $35 visa fee for entry into Laos?? Where does she get a 3 day pass, as the layover at Nong Khai is 2 hours. Will she have time to get a boarder pass before boarding the Nong Khai to Thanaleng station part?? Sorry for all the questions, just want to get my "ducks in a row". Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Cheers, :)

I've not taken the train to the Lao side but have crossed the bridge often to Thannaleng. From the "regular" immigration area, it's baht 300 for a taxi of van to downtown, and difficult to bargain. A tuk-tuk would be less expensive but not sure my ears would take the damage so have passed on that. There is also the occasional bus to town.

Re your GF & her Thai passport, use it, not the border pass, which'd take some time to process on both sides. Thai passport holders are FREE for the Lao entry, can just go straight on to the Immigration booth, they do NOT need to process a Visa On Arrival at the first windows.

Hello Mac,

Thanks for the reply and the info, I will do that, as far as the GF Passport thing. That helps me out quite a bit and far less hassle. Much appreciated.

Cheers,
