One Day Street Stall Ban Likely

One day street stall ban likely

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officials want to reimpose the Wednesday ban on street vendors lifted by former Bangkok governor Samak Sundaravej, for the sake of a cleaner city.

Deputy city clerk Talod Charoonrat said the BMA's city law enforcement and health departments and its civil service commission and district chiefs agreed that the ban should be reinstated.

Officials want street vendors to clean their footpath areas themselves on Wednesdays, to keep the city clean.

The BMA is now responsible for the cleaning. It imposes a cleaning charge of 100 baht per month on street vendors but has problems collecting it.

The vendors' stalls also block the pavements and make the task of cleaning up very difficult, he said.

The BMA would ask Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin to reimpose the ban.
