Jingthing
Just curious how the Americans here celebrated Thanksgiving, food-wise. Personally I gave up on the turkey dinner thing here, but I did of course used to love it back home. My Turkey day dinner -- (Isaan street food) Grilled chicken (it's poultry, OK???) Sticky rice (Remarkably similar to cornbread stuffing if you did too many hallucinogens as a teenager) Spicy catfish salad with side vegetables (Catfish, very American, yes? Raw vegetables? Uh oh, Mama forgot to pay the power bill again!) Street corn, grilled (hey, that's American!) Fresh mango (touch of exotica) Edited November 27, 2009 by Jingthing

Jingthing
It's over mate. Move on. Christmas is next. Then Easter.. For you maybe, I ain't a Christian. I thought it might be interesting to hear a post mortem of what people ate. I wouldn't mind a little food porn in the way of pictures as well! rucus7
This is my 6th Thanksgiving in Thailand. It was my first Turkey dinner. It was great, with all the trimmings. An American friend had some friends over to their home. I am sure his wife spent most of the day cooking. What a treat.

Went around to Roadhouse, but their Thanksgiving meal was 'finished'. (Not even 6pm!) Thought about heading down Sukhumvit, but instead went to Beirut Restaurant and had a chicken shwarma and some hummus. Excellent!

Yes as expats it is best to be flexible. Honestly I was really craving Iranian food yesterday, but thought that was just a little too flexible for T-day ... tutsiwarrior
roast chicken from tescos, chopped some up and put in mama noodles; home made yogurt with a sliced banana and then later for a sweet snack a peanut butter and jelly sammich (Skippy's extra crunchy...) I haven't had a thanksgiving meal since 1986...useta be in america if you had nowhere to go and friends you were usually invited as sharing what you have is part of the spirit of the occasion. I've worked with american contractors on some projects and they always had their own thanksgiving...I never did get invited maybe 'cause I was owner's engineer and employed by non-americans; probably considered to be un-american for a number of reasons an' not entitled to the usual consideration

sceadugenga
Not a Thanksgiving indulger for national reasons but I haven't had a Christmas dinner for years. Usually a BBQ with some Thais in the evening.
Meridian007
Aw, shucks, I probably should've done a poll, innit? this was my first thought when I saw your post! I assumed it would be a poll! I went to the Londoner with some friends (one of whom is American, I always do Thanksgiving in November now because no one in Thailand realizes that Canadian Thanksgiving is earlier...), and ate way too much. I hadn't tried their Thanksgiving buffet before, but it was really good! (JT, if you check the Bangkok City forum, there are some pics)

No Yank able to stomach a bit of humble pie this year then? Thought not. Mind you, you could always follow Obama's example and spare the turkey. Probably explains why he's a member of the Stars and Stripes Fat Boy Club. So Super Size me, gastronauts with emphasis on noughts. Then there's Homer ........ the real American hero. PeaceBlondie
Don't remember what I ate - maybe kaow pat gai. My first non-Turkey Thanksgiving meal was at a Zapatista refugee camp in 1998 (lentils!).
jfchandler
Oh come on JT!!! YOu can do better than that... I saw in another thread, Pattaya folks were talking about a variety of places there to have a good Thanksgiving turkey meal. I'm sure, there was not a lack of T-Day offerings available, even in Pattaya... For the second straight year, I went to Bullys pub near Sukhumvit Soi 4 (around the corner from Nana Plaza) and had a great buffet feast for 590 baht of roast turkey, mashed potatoes, turkey stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry dressing, pumpkin and apple spice pies, and a cherry cobbler.... YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More than enough to last me until Christmas

moe666
Ribeye steak, green beans, goat cheese, and a fig confitt. The whole turkey thing just doesn't do it for me, I do like cornbread dressing.
