Well they have been a little quiet regarding the request Well, good luck, Gent. I'll vote for your reinstatement if it means anything. Love to see that old avatar of yours - the one with that "poofter"- looking dude up again!
May 9, 200521 yr Hey Scampy, now that you have a FISH as your Avitar, keep the name but ditch the fish! That's not just any fish Pauly, that's SALMON! F.uck anyone you think you lost creditbility with, they are not your friends are they? There just a bunch of strangers on the net, why pander to get there respect? You're right my friend, and I'm learning, slowly. Tell you a secret man, when I check the forum in the morning with me coffee and ciggies and I see among all the new posts oone by the Scamp, I always save it for last coz I know it'll be the best read. Sometimes coz its good and thought provoking, and sometimes coz it will be shit and I can laugh at it. Cheers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dublin Bay Prawn, Scampi, Langoustine or Norway Lobster Nephrops norvegicus Scampi 4th one down
May 12, 200521 yr I just chose the name that I used for everything else at the time. It was quiet in those days and didn't think it made any difference. Wish I had been more witty at the time, but hey that's life. Mostly likey, if I had thought about it at the time, I would have had "Wolfie" instead, but that's gone now! PS: Looks like I was the only one that noticed RamdomChances typo. I thought it was funny when I noticed.
May 17, 200521 yr I am happy to keep my name. I chose Thomas Merton because he was a sort of hero of mine: “an Englishman who became a Communist, a Catholic, a Trappist monk and a Buddhist”. I thought I was also being smart, choosing someone who died in Bangkok in 1968. Even though any comparison between me and the real TM, makes me feel ashamed, ‘cause, on the scale of things, I couldn’t qualify to be Merton’s toilet cleaner. Yet curiously, without his name as my pseudonym, I am sure much worse excesses of bullsh*t would have been allowed to stay unchecked, and instead of making the 500, I’d be one of the prematurely and permanently banned. Although there is still time yet to achieve that status.
May 17, 200521 yr hi' I chose not to change, it's my real name, so if I don't like it I guess that I should complain to my mother francois
May 18, 200521 yr ...Although there is still time yet to achieve that status.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're dead right there, sonny Jim!
May 24, 200521 yr Havnet read all the posts. but i'm well hapy with my name. sums me up. My mate used to call me this. Every forum i am on i use it. the only one i had to change something was Ebay. so i'm Jockstar####. No stress. Wouldnt and dont want to change it.
May 24, 200521 yr I started out 10+ years ago using my real first and last name. What a newbie I was, but the internet seemed a bit softer then, at times, than now... My trust level was still high Started using Ajarn on the internet a few months later, chosen simply because it was my job, and what people called me all day long, and I thought it sounded friendly and helpful. Sometimes I regret using it because I do feel a responsibility that some might place on me that I can't fullfill for them. but it is me, to me. Some folks like to throw stones simply because of the monicker. I just view that as a screwed-up reaction to screwed-up inward thinking that I'm better than them. Screwed up Jealousy turned into focused hostility. And when I tell them they're nuts, they never believe me! It's always just a name
May 24, 200521 yr Author Ajarn is a kewl name. But I would have spelt it Ajahn in the way that the forest monks do. That and your beefy post quota make you appear esteemed. Thaomas_Merton was a good choice too, though I thought that he did not really become a buddhist, so much as someone interested in Buddhism but only as auxilliary to his native Christianity. My other choices were Git ; Slippery ; Slimy ; Slimy Git; (going by what friends call me) Noose ; Bodhidharma ; or Abandon.
May 24, 200521 yr Thaomas_Merton was a good choice too, though I thought that he did not really become a buddhist, so much as someone interested in Buddhism but only as auxilliary to his native Christianity. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is an interesting sentence - we could spend hours discussing it - but then we wouldn't want to hijack this thread would we? I don't doubt the last part, about the "auxiliary to his native Christianity", but when does somebody "really become a Buddhist"? TM's experiences as described in his Asian Journal, could lead one to conclude he had experiences as close to Enlightenment as any, regardless of their native beliefs.
May 24, 200521 yr My handle started on another forum as an employment complaint about my first Thai school. It has since evolved into more of an attitude- many have told me too much of an attitude! I am self-consciously a lot more didactic and judgmental using this handle than in my real life, where I also like to teach but more by example [and occasionally by letting people fall in the holes they've dug around themselves]. "Steven"
December 19, 200718 yr See see see, this is funny. Ahh, my name legag. It could be seen at two diff. ways either leg-ag or le-gag which is what I meant it to be called LE-GAG. Gosh know what I was thinking to come up with that name! I like it though. Some names just too confusing, long, boring (name after places, numbers) and sometimes gives me '<deleted> is that name?!?' <--
