Google Maps + Live Traffic

Featured Replies

Basically I'm looking for a voice navigation system that will plot the fastest route taking current traffic conditions into account.

Google maps now has live traffic feed on their maps but I'm not sure whether they have voice guided navigation

maps.google.co.th

Is there anything out there that does this reliably in Thailand?

(Ps I only really care about traffic conditions in BKK)

I use googlemaps on my Nokia N97 and it doesn't have voice guidance and as far as I am aware, it doesn't have traffic information for Bangkok yet, but let me know if you have conclusive proof of this..

One big bugbear for me is that Googlemaps doesn't do automatic re-routing (in case of a missed turn or heavy traffic)) but for US$ 0 - you get what you pay for.

Google maps is a straight forward app that sits nicely on any phone, the search function is good, but flexible with your searches (Lad Prahao, Lat Prahao, Ladprahao) and you should find what you are looking for. PLUS the more people add "user defined" locations on the maps, the more you will find.

If you want turn by turn, auto re-routing, and voice navigation you will have to put your hand in your pocket and pay for something like Navteq (application like Tom Tom that sits on Nokia and other Symbian Phones) or a real GPS system.. you can pick these up for around 4,000 - 6,000 baht now, so it shouldn't break the bank too much.

My suggestion, with anyone looking to buy any GPS enabled phone or dedicated GPS devices, is to buy an external Bluetooth GPS receiver and mount in good clear view of the window to get a better sync with the satellites, especially when you are driving along covered areas like Sukhumvit.

I just bought a Nuvi 1460 from ESRI and they say that Bangkok will have traffic avoidance by next year, didn't say exactly when. But I'm hoping it goes on soon.

Great find !!!!! This is what I call progress. Hope they move along faster so the information can be transmitted to GPS devices.
