Hi there, first of all I apologise if this is the wrong forum for this, but the only other one tat was close was migration to other countries. What I need to do is ship some of my and my wifes personal affects to Thailand from the UK - but I don't really know where to start.

I presume by sea is probably the cheapest option, which would suit me fine as we don't need it there urgently.

I found this, which is pretty helpful

http://www.thaivisa.com/340.0.html

the bit about passports and dutie free - does that mean it'd be best to put it all in my wife's name so tat she can show it as stuff belonging to a thai returning to thailand (which is what we're doing).

Also I found this website

http://www.anglopacific.co.uk/internationa...CFcts4wodA2ikqg

they sound good as well. All I'd like really is some words of wisdom from someone who has some experience in doing this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

I found this post as well, which is helpful, though it's about coming from america. I suppose the procedures remainthe same when you get to Thailand... unfortunately, because it sounds like a bit of a headache.

shipping household goods/furnitures to Thailand is always a problem.

irregardless of where you come from, the import procedure is the same. check out the Thai customs website below

http://www.customs.go.th/Customs-Eng/FreeZ...enuNme=FreeZone

If you have a O,B visa you will have a "ONE time" exemption of duty on your household goods (within reasonable amount)

If you are a retuning Thai national the procedure differs a bit, but be sure to check the website.

What I did was to get a Customs broker to handle my stuff as it turned out easier, less stressful and probably paid a little less

on import duty. (you know that Customs expects a under the table bribe hun.. if not, you'll end up paying much more than

necessary)

If your wife has been out of the country for more than one year you should put the shipment in her name as she is entitled to one shipment free of duty.

Sea will be the cheapest option.

I have used Pickfords a few times and can recommend them.
