Hello,

Before going all the way out to Immigration I want to make sure that what I plan to do is allowed. I have a double entry tourist visa that I arrived on a couple of weeks ago. I want to get a 30 day extension and a reentry permit to come back into Thailand on this without using my second entry. Is it possible to get a reentry permit or is the rule that I need to use my second entry of the tourist visa when I come back. I would like to use that second entry on this double entry tourist visa at a later date.

Thanks

You are aware that second entry has to be made before the visa expiration date?

Yes you can obtain a re-entry permit to keep any permitted to stay alive and return using that to continue the remaining days. You do not gain any days and those while outside Thailand are lost.

Yes, should not be a problem.

Just be sure that on re-entry the immigration officer stamps you back in as per your first entry/re-entry permit.

I assume this is not done often, so easy for the officer not to notice and just use your second entry!

And as Lopburi noted, make sure you do your border run for your second entry before expiry of said visa, this date can be found on the visa itself and will be usually a few days before your allowed to remain stamp date...

This is surprising, so you can get a re-entry permit on a tourist visa, which you can use to go out and come back in again.

Then you could exit and re-enter on the 2nd entry of the TR Visa.

How much is a re-entry permit?

A re-entry permit will preserve your current permission to stay. Fee 1,000 baht single entry (3,800 baht multiple entry). Obtain from local immigration office.

Not so surprising at all. A re-entry permit is there to preserve your allowed stay when leaving the country for a short trip.

A double entry TR visa allows for a total stay of 2 times 60 days (each stay can be extended by 30 days).

If you would leave after the first week of arriving in Thailand, you would lose roughly 7 weeks of your first entry (or even 11 weeks if you would go for the 30 day extension).

The re-entry permit makes sure you do not lose all those weeks.
