A friend of mine has a 60 day tourist visa that expires on Dec 25th but won't be leaving Thailand until Feb 2nd, can his 60day visa be extended within Thailand and if so how? If not any other options? He will leave for BKK later today and will be based there for at least the next 7-10 days.

Thanks in advance

He can get a 30 day extension, if he is in Bangkok he will have to go to immigration at Chaeng Wattana. Fee is 1900 Baht.

However, this will not allow him to stay until 2 February, but only till 24 January.

After that he might get another 7 days if he can show a confirmed outbound ticket, and even that one would only be til the 31st of January. The outbound ticket should be for flying ou on the 31st or before, or they will not give the 7 day extension! Again 1,900 Baht.

To be on the safe side he should re-arrange his travel plans so he leaves Thailand at the latest on the 24th of January. At that day e could do a border run which on re-entry will give him another 15 days (till the 7th of February)

He can extend his permission to stay for 30 days at local immigration office. He will need to take with him completed application form TM7, recent passport sized photo, copies of his passport photo page/visa/arrival stamp + TM6 departure card. Fee 1900 baht. He can apply early and will not lose any days. That I calculate will still leave him 9 days short, so he will then have to do a border run to obtain a final 15 day visa exempt entry.
