I am shopping for a low priced notebook with the most bang for my baht.....under 14,000. Need it mostly as a media/game and check email on the road. Seems the best deals are on Acer and best service?? Upgradability and reliability is a plus and don't want to go with those mini netbooks, but a midsize screen with DVD RW.

Is there any great price advantage by ordering on internet and shipped here or would I suffer customs/duties and service issues??

Any suggestions and/or experiences welcome.....

14,000 baht is a netbook price. If you want to play 3D games you're out of luck, they won't do it. But if you're happy with facebook type games there really isn't much difference between netbooks in terms of graphics performance (all very limited). If you want a notebook you're looking at 20k+, minimum. Some of the Toshiba home/entertainment notebooks are fairly good in terms of reliability and price and having some kind of dedicated graphics card.

I don't know how good Acer service is but I will say their reliability and build quality is awful (yes there are people who have good experiences with them, lucky you). Acer has the distinction of being the sole manufacturer we refuse to buy from.

Some great bargains available if you have friends in the UK. You can pick up a 15.4 " to 17" screen laptop for less than 16k baht....with Genuine Windows software.
