Supermarket Liquor Sales

Featured Replies

I may have missed this but on a recent visit to Thailand I found a new law had been introduced banning sales of Alcoholic Liquor in Supermarkets in quantities of less than 10 litres between 2pm and 5 pm, including Big C, Carrefour, Tops etc. On returning to my apartment however I found Seven 11 as well as other covenience stores were all happy to oblige. I saw this law was applicable to the whole of Thailand, not just Pattaya. I cannot work out the logic of this law as it would only harm the supermarkets so does anyone have an explanation or is it more Thai logic?

Thai logic dude, best discussed amongst friends with the approved 10 litres of alchohol which can be purchased anytime. :o

It's an old law that has been "reintroduced".

Off sales between 11am - 2pm and 5pm to midnight.

Mr T reckoned that there were too many schoolchildren getting drunk.

Not many places are enforcing it though.

Tescos enforces it, I have been caught out a couple of times; even prevented me from buying beer at Songkran. Who was at school then?

I like this law. It means that its not OK to have a couple of beers in the afternoon, but you have to go and get totally wasted.

Theres some Thai logic!!

I'm saying nothing

Poor "Lampard", what can you say. I'm still thinking about the May 19 birthday "thingy" over your way. What's happening then, 2 to 5? Ok, what's happening "period"? :o

There's a sign in my neighbourhood convenience store.

It states:

"NO ALCOHOLICS BETWEEN 14:00 - 17:00"

Jing jing! :o

I think this law in cool because it basically tell us that it's ok to get totally plastered on your lunch hour, and not continue drinking while you work thru the afternoon...... :o
