CRIME / LATE NIGHT PROWLER

Panty snatcher eludes police

Nakhon Ratchasima: -- A panty snatcher has kept dozens of women up late at night guarding underwear put out to dry on washing lines.

Police have tried lying in wait near clotheslines specially decorated to catch the thief, but he has proved elusive.

Pol Maj-Gen Seksan Boonpharatchakorn, of Pak Thong Chai police station, said the culprit must be a member of the local community as he seems to know his way around.

The thefts have been going on for about three months in San Ta Poo community on Thepthongchai road. Women have lost underwear, pyjamas, sarongs and even spaghetti-strap blouses.

Pol Maj-Gen Seksan said investigators have been sent to second-hand clothing shops but found nothing suspicious.

Many women now prefer to stay up and wait for their belonging to dry before going to bed, he said.

Some have even hung a paper sign on their laundry lines telling the thief to return the items.

i have actually heard of this, my wife tells me that it was a problem in bangkok at one point. A certain laundrymat always lost your clothes if you left them unattended and they would mysteriously show up at local clothing stalls.

When I lived in Nong Bua my wife used to loose underware.

It turned out to be a TV who didn't have the balls to go into a shop and buy them himself.

First of all, I dont think crackdown should be used in reference to panties. Forgive me ovenman but it appears that Thailand is becoming the hub of panty snatching.

Redundant post above:
