Day-to-day life in Myanmar
Although Mandalay is close to the 'front line', the city is reasonably quiet and safe. Yes, there are armed police and soldiers, and the road passing the Chinese consulate is blocked off and guarded, after someone chucked a bomb at the building! Electricity power cuts happen several times a day, but that was also the case many years ago. For me, one noticeable difference from my first visits many years ago are the large number of solar panel arrays mounted to completely cover the roofs of many buildings. Buildings always had diesel generators, but now solar power is much in evidence. That's annoying for me, because the solar controller units generate harmonic radio signals that interfere with my reception of UHF/VHF satellite signals 🙂. Of course, my ham radio transmitter is safely locked up in Thailand.... I will ask the military to renew my Burmese ham radio licence, but the chance of that happening is... er .... fecking unlikely! -

Why I left Thailand
I had always been stashing up money at the bank with my children in mind if I would die. They would inherit a good sum of money to start their life. Something I never did have. Until a few years ago, when I was warned that I might have to leave Thailand to get proper health care. RE-thinking my "wealth" and my "inheritance" gave me a complete different view on this. When the Reaper would come for me the TAXMAN (Belgium) would get the biggest chunk, 65%, out of my savings. My children who would get the other 35%, would to pay taxes on this again the next year as they would have to declare it in their income. Besides that, I have 3 children, and like most elder people, NONE of them are worried about me. Just a "Happy Birthday" card and a "Happy New Year" card to prove they did not forgot me. Better to spend the savings on things I aways wanted to do, but were to expensive and not really needed. A cruise around the world like I see many times for 10,000 USD? Living in 2024 is not the same as living in 1960. -

Peeping Tom turns violent: Ex-con caught spying on women in Chachoengsao
A peeping Tom, recently released from prison, was apprehended by police in Chachoengsao province after allegedly secretly spying on women bathing and later becoming violent under the influence of drugs. The suspect, 38 year old Nitikorn, had only been out of prison for two months following a drug-related conviction. The incident took place in a community in Chachoengsao, where he reportedly climbed to peek at 24 year old Supalak and her sister while they were bathing. The police were notified yesterday, November 20 at 8.30pm when Supalak called to report the incident. She informed officers that Nitikorn, who had been using drugs, became frenzied and attempted to attack his aunt with a knife. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Nitikorn at an abandoned house behind Supalak’s residence. Although he was not exhibiting any violent behaviour at the time, he was detained and taken for drug testing at the local police station. The victims, including Supalak, gathered to file a formal complaint. Nitikorn later revealed that he had been out of prison for approximately two months after serving time for drug offences. He claimed he was merely sitting behind Supalak’s house and denied peeping on her. He acknowledged an argument with his aunt, 48 year old Duangjai the previous evening, but insisted he was only holding a flashlight and not a knife. He admitted to using methamphetamine (meth) for the last time a week ago. Supalak expressed fear and concern for her and her sister’s safety since Nitikorn’s release from prison. She recounted a previous incident where Nitikorn had spied on her sister bathing. Despite warning him against such actions, he continued his behaviour, this time targeting Supalak herself. She described how she spotted Nitikorn lurking behind the bathroom as she was about to bathe. Upon confronting him, he remained unresponsive and refused to leave. She quickly dressed and contacted the police. The previous day, Nitikorn allegedly went into a frenzy after consuming meth, wielding a knife and threatening Duangjai. Fortunately, she managed to escape and alert the police, though Nitikorn fled before they arrived. Supalak expressed a desire for Nitikorn to either undergo rehabilitation or remain incarcerated to prevent further disturbances in the community. Duangjai shared her own experiences with Nitikorn’s erratic behaviour. After returning home from work yesterday, she encountered him, her nephew, who was acting erratically due to drug use, claiming to be a king as he paced outside the house. Although Duangjai did not engage with him, she was subjected to his verbal outbursts. Given Nitikorn’s history of theft and vandalism, including stealing wires near the railway, Duangjai intends to pursue legal action to ensure he faces a lengthy prison term, reported KhaoSod. Opening a Thai bank account as a foreigner questions
The OP mentions "my SCB Bank account (Pattaya Central Festival location)". If this account is still active, there should be no real need to open a new one. Remit the money, let it fester and then apply for the long-stay. The only documents needed from the bank will be the statement and/or bank book. The former can be ordered online or at any branch and the bank book can be updated at any branch too.
