January 4, 201016 yr Tried searching for the answer to this one, but didn't find it, so I apologize in advance for redundancy. I am currently on a 1 Year Non-O visa which will expire in March of this year. During the last 8 months I got a job and now have a work permit as well. My questions is; can I change my Non-O to Non-B at time of Visa renewal without leaving the country? When I first did my Non-O I was able to do the entire thing without leaving Thailand. Thanks! Marc
January 4, 201016 yr You don't have to change anyting - you just extend your stay for one year at Immigration on the basis of work if you meet the requirements. It is an extension of stay - not a visa. It is not clear how you obtained your current non immigrant O visa however; or if it has been extended for one year already.

I obtained my Non-O by being married to a Thai National; however, now we're divorced so I need to switch to Non-B for my 1 yr extension. Thoughts?
January 4, 201016 yr I think you have a 12 month extension of stay based on being married to a Thai Lady. You do not have to change anything. You can work and get a Work Pemit with that extension. In fact it is a better option as you do not lose your extension if you lose your job. Stay where you are. EDIT. Ignore the above.
January 4, 201016 yr Your permission to stay ended the day you divorced! Apply for an extnsion of stay based on your employment as soon as possible. For most jobs you would need a minmum income, based on your nationality, to qualify. For most people from Western countries the minimum is 50,000 a month.

How can I get an extension on a Non-O marriage Visa when I'm now divorced? That's why I need to switch over to Non-B. I already have the work permit since June 2009.

I work for an MNC with proper creds and am an Executive in the company. So back to my original question; how do I convert my extension of stay from Non-O to Non-B??
January 4, 201016 yr Just go to immigration as soon as possible with all the papers and ask for an extension of stay based on employment. Doe you qualify for the one-service centre?

January 4, 201016 yr Are you here on a 90 day entry stamp or a one year extension of stay? If extension of stay it ended the day you got divorced. If a 90 day entry stamp it is valid and can be extended for any valid reason that any other non immigrant visa entry could be extended. There is no need to change.

This is why I want to change to non-B ;-)
January 4, 201016 yr Your extension of stay based on marriage ended when you divorced. You need to apply for extension of stay based on employment at Thai immigration (note is not a Non-B visa) if you meet the requirements. You will need to take with you to immigration company papers and accounts/tax filings for the last 2 years, together with details of your salary/tax returns and maybe contract of employment, so talk to your company's HR department to help get the papers together. Being a MNC they should know what is needed.

I definitely meet the requirements for the extension of stay, that is not an issue. My Non-O is set to expire on March 2nd, and I just came back into Thailand on December 23rd with the normal purple stamp dated to expire on the date of my 1 year, multiple re-entry permit, which is the same as my Non-O.
January 4, 201016 yr I expect you may run into a problem - when I changed reasons for extension of stay from wife to retirement they required the wife be present and sign her understanding of the change in my status. If they do that with you and the divorce becomes known expect you could be charged with overstay and be required to exit the country.
January 4, 201016 yr I had a Non "O" for the 6 years that I extended every year. I divorced 7 years ago. When the year extension was up for renewal they never asked about how I acquired the non "O", they seem to only care that I had one. Unfortually I just lost the non "O" becasuse I left thailand on emergency without getting a re-entry permit. Now I will be going to Phnom Phen to get a non "B" now. You might try asking at immigration at Changwattana.

He concurred that I can continue to extend my Non-O based on employment reasons. I will be sending him all my documents to look at tomorrow and will let you guys know. I won't have a problem on overstay anyway as I have only been back in the country for 10 days. Fingers crossed, thanks for the input everyone ;-)

Were you able to convert your Non-O to Non-B? Im in the same situation but I obtained my Non-O under my wife's Non-B. She is employed and I just came to BKK few months after as her dependent. Im lucky to get a job then the HR advises me to get a tourist visa through a visa run(15-days) in Aranya Prathet instead of going to Penang, My for a Non-B. They assures me that they could get me a Non-B in 5-7 days which I really doubt? Im just wondering why they can't convert my Non-O to Non-B while Im in Bkk? Im skeptical about following their advise, any input? thanks.
June 29, 201115 yr I can't see why immigration wouldn't do that and at the worst they will say no and you have to go abroad anyway. (They don't convert, they simply change your reason for staying in Thailand). But you must apply for the work permit first.
