Iban Code?

Featured Replies

Last November i transferred money online successfully via HSBC's "Transfer money overseas" form.

I dont recall at the time it asking me for an IBAN number. Maybe it did...but i have no idea now what i must have put in, if it did! Because, i just tried using a SWIFT number (as i read that Thailand doesnt use IBAN), and it came up as invalid.

May I ask what other people have been doing for it go through?

SWIFT+account number? (Would that be account number with no dashes?)

:)

Thanks!

Yes I think if you ask your Thai bank they will give you the correct transfer IBAN code /

I think you'll find that IBAN's are mostly associated with European transfers and transfers of European currency - although the IBAN system can be used worldwide, most Asian countries prefer to use SWIFT (of which IBAN is a part). In fact, some UK banks require a SWIFT code for Sterling transfers and an IBAN for EURO transfers.

swift code has only letters

account number must be filled in in appropriate section

you can't mix swift with account number

IBAN Codes are only used by banks based in the EU for inter-union transfers All banks use SWIFT Codes though, if you have an account in the EU the IBAN Code will be printed on your Bank statement. SWIFT Codes are an all letter code that every bank in the world has.

IBAN is restricted to Europe - maybe some other countries but not Thailand.

You can get the Swift code in which case don't put it together with the acct no.

If you are using the online HSBC transfer, Thailand is normally in drop down as "other countries" in which case they don't ask for swift or iban.

You will find that with HSBC online once you choose "other countries" from the drop down, the form contents change and don't require the iban (in my experience no swift either)

HSBC ask for the Beneficiary Bank Identifier Code (BIC) which is KASITHBK and also the Beneficiary IBAN number/ account number. Just add the Kasikorn Acc number.

They also ask for the beneficiary address now.

Transferred some money HSBC - Kasikorn today and can confirm this is exactly whats requested.

If past experience is anything to go by the money should be in my Thai account Monday.

Never had any problems using these two banks and usually in next working day.

sally, even with clicking the "Thailand" catagory, it comes up asking for an IBAN number.

-HOWEVER- I sussed it! Was stupidly simple really...

Hah! Thanks..saw this after i made my post :) But yes, that works, thankfully!

The BIC is the swift code, which doesn't have CHM on the end.

That might be the reason it worked when you tried again.

Anyway it worked - now just make sure you save the details, otherwise you will be like me .... now which one was it .... err last time...dam_n it all these forms look the same!
