In my opinions, junk food is bad and should be banned for three reasons. First junk food lacks in nutritions. Junk food has ingredients which are unhealthy and too much of calories. In addition, junk food is mostly compounded by cabohydrate and fat and also less in vitamins. Secondly, junk food will increase your weight. Many of cabohydrate and fat in junk food give you too much of energy as your body need to store energy that cause your weight to increase, junk food turns you into addicts. In experienmental by Paul Johnson of the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Fla, a center in experienmental rat's brain addicted to high-fat eating habit so low calories food is less respondsive. As people who addict in heroin require more of drugs, rat need more and more of junk food.

In conclusion, I think that junk food should be banned. So what do you think?

I am agree with his opinion but it is not easily to banned it from people.

I disagree. It's up to everyone if they want to eat it or not. If he think it's bad, why not just stop buying it?

Its also fast food and cheap. Fast food just needs to be made so that it is not junk food and is tasty. Change junk to healthy fast food by eliminating trans fats, substituting sweet potato fries for french fries. Make a tasty vegetable/soy burger. We are not rats but just aren't offered cheap healthy fast food alternatives that are tasty with a few exceptions like some Subway sandwiches. US may tax as a deterrent junk food starting with high calorie drinks like most soda water.

Yes man u get it all right. This is our University project and not to see who gets the most responses but the teacher wants us to share our opinion and to be involved in society about the food that we eat in daily life especially about fast food that nowadays people have more interrest in eating it. Also to give knowledge to others, so plz. give us a good response ,thanks

O.K. back to your opinion, I agree with you that they lack in nutrition but you know that this is your life and you know how to survive your life so it is up to you. You know drugs are bad, cigarettes can turn you into addicts. Therefore if you know they are bad so stop eating it. Also if all people in this world stop eating it, then it will be banned definately.

It's not the junk food that should be banned but some of the people that eat it. When i do rarely visit a fast food outlet i always seem to see a customer 'waddling' in through the door, going to the counter and ordering their favourite greasy burger with fries. The amusing thing for me is that they inevitable choose to 'upsize' their order and then out comes the puchline 'with a DIET Coke' :)

Let people eat what they want, i dont really care if they want to be fat slobs its their choice. But there should be healthy alternatives.

Then, perhaps you should show some initiative, use your budding critical analysis skills, and develop a contrarian view. For example, 100 years ago, even wealthy people died from starvation. Calories are now so cheap, even the poorest people are fat. I'm not going to provide you with a URL - you can demonstrate your initiative to find the resource. Here's a quote for you to ponder:

"Hunger is far from conquered. But since 1990, the global rate of malnutrition has declined an average of 1.7 percent a year. Based on data from the World Health Organization and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, for every two people who are malnourished, three are now overweight or obese. Among women, even in most African countries, overweight has surpassed underweight."

As a devil's advocate, I could speculate that your viewpoint is racist, and that starving non-whites is a good thing. I'm sure that I'm over-stating your opinions considerably, but you should look at both sides of an argument before you make a decision between what is "right" and what is "wrong".

Regardless, if you read the entire article, you might change your teacher-approved perspective, and gain some sorely needed insight.

The nice thing about thailand is that the junk food is more expensive than the native thai food from street vendors. Tasty, quicker than mcdonalds back home, healthier and cheaper, (not to mention it doesn't make you feel sick after eating it) it's a major reason why I'm here!

I agree with this, it is useful junk food costing more than the healthy option. In the UK a mcdonalds or cheap chicken shop are cheap and quick. Where as i would need to pay over double for some sushi or even a salad would cost the same as a mc D's.

Perhaps a tax on junk food would be a bigger deterant, as it isnt really right to dictate what people should eat. But i think it is fair like with ciggerrets and alchole, to tax these items which harm an individual.

Don't know who coined the phrase but.....To each his own.......Not at all in favor of ANY government wasting my tax dollars or anyone else's on legislating nor enforcement of an eating ban on anything. It's one of those pretty much victim-less vices and there is already a major slippery slope where other such personal freedoms are concerned but at least this one is for the most part effecting only the abuser..And no need to go into the taxing health care system etc. I know about that but it's a moot point as something will always be doing so as long as there are humans and that's the slippery slope we are sliding down, where does it all end? Outlawing jet ski's because people drown, scooters because people crash? Cars because people crash into scooters? It's really endless...

It comes down to more education, prohibition has always just served to create a lucrative black market and an insatiable desire for more and there is a need for people to take responsibility for themselves. Now there's a novel idea often overlooked in country's such as Thailand. Helmets on scooters, seat belts in cars, obeying the already existing road laws, you name it let's begin with those and once they're mastered then move on to the next trick..

BTW it was mentioned once here that local Thai food is more nutritious? Against what comparison? Because I can tell you that a very major source of carbo and starches is the main staple of rice and nearly everything here has high amounts of salt, MSG, sugar, deep fried saturated fats and few vegetables of any significant proportions so it's far from so nutritious..

BUT, what is junk food ? Watching the in laws here eating fried intestines with what the animal has eaten still inside to me is junk food. Are you saying anything inside a bread bap is junk food ?

Ohhh... .chip butties....

I used to make myself a sandwich when I got home from work

Fat on the burner

First round of bread under the grill

Peel and Slice the potatoes

Put the kettle on

I hope you turned the toast when it smelt done and not when it started smoking

Open the tin of beans

Chips in the fat

Second round of bread under the grill

Butter the first round while its still hot, cause the butter's been in the refrigerator

Boiled water in the shallow frying pan, bring it back to the boil

Slice the cheese

Eggs in the water to poach

Did you remember to turn the toast?

Irn Bru out the refrigerator, pour a large glass

Turn off the gas

Butter the toast

CHips on the first slice; there's probably enolugh left over for a side order as well

Egg on top of cheese on the next slice

Beans on cheese on the third slice

And the fourth slice to close it all off.

Oh, happy days....

Wanted to include that skinny is not necessarily healthy. Starving people are skin and bones, is that healthy??

Skinny does not always mean healthy even skinny people can be real fat. Anyway everyone knows when they are too fat but many just use excuses not to do something about it. Because it will require you to amend your ways. Cut down on some things (beer) or fast food that you like.

I don't tell people what to do because if you force someone to loose weight he wont stick to his diet. Motivation should come from within.

I could murder a Whopper with cheese right now, or two. :licklips:

I think the ' junk food ' talk is tosh. One can eat anything in moderation, if one wants to binge on burgers then thats the individuals choice and knows the risks as the pounds creep on. Next thing the OP will want is to ban beer cos of the risks. All because he doesn't eat burgers or drink beer.

Your time would be better spent concentrating on sending ' junk ' food to the starving in this world.

I am in reasonable shape but i do eat the occasional burger (say less then once in 3 months and sometimes i go sizzler) You just have to balance it all out. But if your happy being overweight and a health risk then so be it. Its your choice then nobody should tell me what to do. As long as i am not paying for it (think the health care in European countries.)

Easy solution - make a turnstile at the entrance to McD's, KFC et al, a really narrow one that you need to be under, say, 80kgs to fit through. That will stop the fat b'stards

It's certainly a lot easier to work up a fury of disapproval and condemnation against something that you personally don't like than to actually think of a constructive way of addressing a problem - should you perceive it as such.

I have no real objection to fast food, and eat regularly at Subway; in fact, I probably eat most of my meals at fast food restauarants - Indian buffet places, subway, as I mentioned; I really like 8 noodles - you know, the place with the Tom Yum Char Siu and so forth... The Indian buffets are playing havoc with my weight. A samosa and a couple of curry puffs is really sufficient in terms of calories, but its not a very satisfying meal. I suppose I should join our friends and colleagues, and fast for a few weeks,
