Hello,

My Thai girlfriend is currently living in the US under a work visa which is set to expire in a few months. We have been seeing each other exclusively for quite some time and are thinking about marriage.

I would prefer to wait to get married until next year for a variety of reasons, but if we go that route her current visa will expire and she would have to go back to Thailand.

My question is how difficult is it to get her back over here for marriage once her work visa expires? Is the process so unsure and difficult that it would be better to go ahead and marry her while she is here on her work visa?

Any input is appreciated.

Thank you!

this is not a recommendation but if your GF is now in the states, the best is probably to marry her while residing in the states.

you can adjust status which may take up to several month and she will be able to stay during the adjustment period.

If you decide to wait, then you'll have to take the K visa route which will take about 8-10 month under normal circumstances.

I'd have to agree, marry her in the states and register the marriage in Thailand when you get back. I'm pretty sure it would make your lives easier in the long term. Good luck.

If you go the K Visa route, is there a chance that they deny it or is it a sure thing but just takes a long time? Do they ask for all kinds of random documentation, bank info, etc? We have lots of pictures together but that's about it!
