Dvd To Avi Converter

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a pile of DVD's that I would like to keep on my external hard drive, problem is they are 4.3 GB to over 7GB each !!

Having used torrent sites when in a country with fast internet to download movies from AXXO and FXG for example, the quality is excellent and only 700mb for a movie or 1.3GB for a really long movie.

Are there any good programmes available on freeware that do not leave a watermark or limit the file size ?

Or if not, I would even be willing to pay for a very good fast converter.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have to be AVI or would MKV outputs be acceptable? I've had good luck with Handbrake for the latter.

I use aimersoft video converter ultimate. It supports dual core and the speed is relatively faster than others. And, it can rips batch dvds at one time. My record is +10. :)

How about to MPG? Fast & high quality:

VOB2MPG

Why do you need software to do that, aren't the VOB files that one finds on a DVD just MPG files with a different file extension? Try renaming a *.vob file to *.mpg and they opening it in Windows Media Player (or any other media player) and you'll see that it plays. However the OP was looking for something that would compress the DVD material to a more reasonable size and the VOB2MPG program doesn't appear to do that (nor would renaming the vob's to mpg, of course).

Most DVDs are encrypted so you'll have to de-crypt them first, then you can re-encode them. I've used DVD Decrypter and Auto Gordian Knot for these processes with success.
