Beer Drinking Women

Featured Replies

Men get more impressed with girls who opt for beer or lager instead of a glass of wine or other more “girlie” drinks, a new UK survey has found.

But only one in 10 women would order a lager or beer when out on a date, the study commissioned by beer company BitterSweet Partnership found.

According to the men questioned for the survey, a beer glass makes the women appear more sexy, confident, fun and independent. Infact, it is a “turn-on” if a girl requested a beer on a first date, reports The Daily Express .

However, women would ditch beer for other options because they think drinking beer makes them appear masculine and unattractive. Just six per cent of women would pick a beer as their drink of choice on a first date, the survey discovered.

Ok, sure its a beer survey done by a beer company but I found it more interesting that women consider beer drinking make them appear masculine.

I must admit, I prefer beer or simple mixed drinks like gin and tonic over cocktails or so called "girlie drinks" (no thanks!).

So, curious, guys, do you agree with the men's opinions and women, do you agree with the idea that beer drinking makes women look masculine?

(note I am not talking about getting hammered here, just a beer on a date)

Depends on the type of glass it is served in, a nice 'half' of lager in a pleasent ergonomical glass suits a lady a lot better than a pint of stout in a handled 'grenade' type of glass in my opinion....but hey, you should drink what you're in the mood for regardless of other peoples preconceptions.....

Haha..thats quite funny. Interesting too.

In the UK I never drank beer. Just because i didnt like the taste there. But, yeh, most girls who drank beers (especially pints) were sorta labelled ..ughh..whats the term...??? Aff i forget.. !

In Argentina I drank beer though, because for starters it was really nice in the summer season, just tasted refreshing. It was normal to sit at the beach and as a group order a pitcher of ice cold beer. The glasses were normal glasses though, which made it feel less like being some big beer guzzler.

My first wife drank beer, pints, and she still does when we go out together (still very good friends despite our differences) but I never really considered the impact it had on how I perceived her. I think people are attracted to people and the drink they prefer makes little or no difference.

Unless she's a fifteen pints of brown and mild sort of gal. :)

I just don't get this love affair the media has with these, mainly meaningless, surveys. Recently they did one that turned up the startling fact that people at home pour drinks equivalent to 128% of normal pub measures. The only thing this proves is that there are an awful lot of tight fisted b@st@ds out there. :D

One thing ladies must be aware of...too much beer is not flattering for the figure, as many guys on here can probably testify to!

That's probably the main reason why I wouldn't usually go for beer... loads of calories! I'd tend to go for vodka mixed with either slimline tonic water or lime and soda. Or rose wine spritzers. Also beer tends to make me feel bloated and leave a nasty taste in my mouth.

Although in Thailand I'd prefer to have a cocktail (yeah prob a few calories but tastes better imo & generally cheaper than what I'd pay in UK so it's a bit of a treat).

As for making women look more masculine, I don't really pay any attention to what anyone's drinking so it probably wouldn't cross my mind and would have more to do with the overall 'look' of the person drinking it. I wouldn't NOT order a beer, worrying what others would think...

Maybe the guys in the UK like it because they might have a greater chance of a beer being bought for them, if the girl is also supping a pint??? :D:)

I enjoyed a pint or two while in the UK but given the company I was keeping (totster, mossfinn and the scouser) could have been getting funny looks and never known it (note to all non English people, do not try scrumpie and do not try to keep up with a scouser!) :)

"Ladettes."

In a normal glass I doubt many guys would give it a second thought, but a pineapple pint glass or drinking out of the bottle might be perceived as less feminine.

A pint or two eh.. ? that was just in the first pub.. hehe

totster :D

I think it differs by culture and sub-culture. I spent 35 years with t-total abstainers. Nobody drank.

I wouldnt mind what a lady drinks but i do not like to see a drunken lady.Sorry but my choice as i had a wife(ex now) who decided that getting plastered for 4 years was a good idea, and i spent more money on treatent for her in that 4 years than i would spend in a lifetime on a thai woman. She also ballooned from a trim 8 stone to a bloated 12 stone lump of fat

I feel sick to the stomach when i see a realy drunk woman and cannot even be near them, just a personal thing.

Isn't it also something to do with 'That Gladys Althorpe' who never buys her own ?

From a Boddingtons (beer) advert in the 90's. At that time a lot of beer was being marketed as 'sexy' maybe some of that has been inbuilt.

IMO - I depends where the first date is. What is attractive is the independence of a lady, but not to the point of it being ridiculous and ordering pints of Guinness in a French restaurant.

There is certainly nothing wrong with a lady ordering a pint in a pub if thats what she enjoys.

Edit:

Forgot to add. On our second date (which was actually valentines day) - I took bottle of 'Singh beer with a Bow and Ribbon' as a present because thats what my girlfriend was drinking when we first met - So, maybe its true.

At least now I know what to order on Monday.

Yup! The Thai lady whose family I support likes her beer. In the 6 years I've been doing so I see a nice pot belly appearing on a previously slim figure. I guess if I stopped helping the family the mother might actually have to do some work. And, that MIGHT balance out the extra fat producing substance that beer seems to have.

Tetleys is nice. I also like a nice wheat beer. Or gin and tonic.

Anyway, wasn't talking about heavy drinking (ahem) but rather about what women drink on a date. I would think that the occasional beer wouldn't have that much effect and why it should appear masculine I have no idea, unless the woman is sitting on the couch slamming back bottles of Bud and shouting wooowooo at the football on tv. :)

Migsy drinks Bud? pictured her more of the 'shandy' type myself.

In summertime i like to drink lager or a shandy occasionally, but my tipple is either white wine (or perhaps kir) and if i am feeling rich a nice voddie and tonic goes down well.

Since i reached my mid forties last year I have started to put on weight. I have been a size 28 waist in Levi's for twenty years - yesterday a friend brought over three pairs - size 30 waist. I said "too big" - then tried them on. Fitted like a glove!!

So even skinny patsy has a bit of a gut. :) And i even asked my friend's husband the neverending question "does my bum look fat in this"!!!

Ever try red wine and chocolate migsy?

I think it's OK for a woman to drink beer so long as her gut isn't bigger than mine!!

I used to have a friend back in England who could drink most men under the table and somehow she managed to stay slim.

She drank pints and didn't look at all masculine.

thats like asking a Thai if they have ever tried green curry with rice

or a Dutch if they have had fries with mayo

or a Mexican if they have had tortilla with salsa

:)

did you drive her to drink? With your bragging maybe!

So, basically, it's ok for men to get drunk but not women?? I feel a feminazi moment coming on...........

I love beers, but I find it hard to have beers + food at the same time. If it's a dinner date a glass of wine (or water) will suffice. Not sure why 'they' say it's masculine, etc. For me hot sunny days + ice cold beers = match made in heaven! :)

Gimme a pint of Kilkenny any day.

If i was on a date in a place which had a wide option of drinks and the lady choose a beer, i would probably view that as more of a turn-off than a turn-on.

But in the end, depending on the lady in question ofcourse, i don't think her choice of beer or another drink would rank as very important in how successful i would rate the date as.

Archimedes, i guess it depends on the environment you grew up in and the associations you have with beer drinking. In Argentina its normal for women to drink a refreshing cerveza, usually in a nice tall glass though. Men wouldnt even blink at a woman drinking a beer like that.

I think doesnt matter what a woman drinks, but more how she drinks it. Even a big pint glass, as unfeminine and unflattering as it looks, would not make a feminine woman look ungraceful or manly.

Exactly Eek.. see below for examples of good and bad way to drink. Look at the size of those pints!
