Thailand extradites suspect in Hungarian theft

Budapest, January 17 (MTI) - Thailand extradited on Sunday a man suspected of stealing 525 million forints -- almost two million euros -- from an armoured transport company in the Hungarian city of Miskolc last September, a spokesperson for the National Police Headquarters told MTI.

The 38-year-old male suspect was the second Thailand has extradited to Hungary, even though there is no extradition agreement between the two countries, said Monika Benyi. On Saturday, Thailand extradited a suspect in a fraud case.

Benyi expressed hope that Thailand would continue to extradite suspects for whom international arrest warrants are issued to the Hungarian police.

Cash-van thieves in Hungary swap bricks for $2.5 million

BUDAPEST, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Thieves in Hungary got away with 500 million Hungarian forints ($2.5 million) from a armored cash van, leaving a pile of bricks in place of the money, Hungarian MTI news agency reported on Thursday.

The van was on its way from Miskolc to Budapest, but when it reached its destination all it contained was some bricks.

Hungarian police confirmed the swindle but would not comment on the details so as not to jeopardize the investigation or reduce the chances of capturing the perpetrators.

In 2007, another cash transit van owned by the same company was robbed. The driver was accused of the theft and a murder of a security guard. The trial of driver and his alleged suspects has not yet finished.
