The village has enough parking areas, so get rid of all the parked cars & motorbikes, that alone should give you a better feel.

Stop ripping down the old chinese buildings, that's what gives the village it's atmosphere, sure renovate & spruce them up, but people have to stop replacing them with concrete.

Light entertainment is always great, do you remember a few years back when they had the Jazz festival? Bands were doing the rounds of all the pubs.

So maybe once a year have a music & food festival, you have enough high end restaurants & hotels to help.

Just a few thoughts , I'm sure someone can add to them.

I agree with all points;

they should make the major part of Bophut a walking area without cars and motorbikes, at least during night time from 6.00PM onwards if they can make the back lane a little more accessible.

If you get rid of the parking areas, you get rid of the local islanders/tourists. You're not suggesting, I hope, the use of public transport????????? :)

No, there is a few areas where you can park bike/car, use them instead of parking anywhere. Like it says no parking on one side of the road, but drinkers & shopkeepers must park outside their favourite pub , shop, can't just park down the road & walk back.

Most culprits, islanders & expats.

Good ideas and I remember a very nice food festival with bands playing on the land where the beach road turns left at the Anantara , now the new Hotel Hunsa Samui Resort & Spa, and on the beach in front of that.

I strongly recommend not open a beer bar. NOT EVEN ONE :)

With the increased traffic through the village and less parking on the beach road a proper path through from the middle road and maybe a car park off it would help a lot.

A walking street sounds great but I reckon most people are too lazy to walk outside to their bikes after a beer or two. A loser for the bars/restaurants.

Making it a pedestrian street after 6pm is not helpfull to all business in the village, what about customers arriving to the hotels after that time? If they have to walk the length of the village on arrival with all the suitcases they will need an extra one to fit all the suits and sunglasses in that they will get for a bargain price on the way. :)

There was an idea a while ago that they would only alow golf buggies along the street in the evening but that seemed to disapear along with the free parking!!

Walking street would be a great idea, if you had more access. As you mentioned, it's not feasible.

There is a 4 parking areas, one before the entrance, happy elephant & a couple of empty blocks of land.I don't see 3 of these lasting too long , value of the land far too great.

A start would be to just park the bikes on one side, leave clear access for passing traffic & pedestrians.

A doner kebab stand for when i am hopelessly drunk on an all nighter

We could certainly do with a late night eaterie. Its near impossible to find food after 11pm. Needs a central location to work well though.

Maybe I am being a bit slow here, so you are probably right, but ....

If you take out the islanders and expats, then who is left? :)

No one is taking anyone out :) , we are only talking about making parking a bit more organised, so people can walk or drive through.

I would say, that the overwhelming majority of tourists walk from nearby Bophut resorts to FV. The rest comes by taxi, then by motorbike and only a very small percentage by car.

Just because you park your bike outside your favourite bar why does this necessarily make you a culprit. I'm completely lost on this.

Secondly, if the village was make walking only it would cripple business there, all for the sake of a minority who take offence at any traffic along the strip.

I would not say that. Everywhere else on the planet almost everyone using walking streets enjoy the traffic free environment. The image of FV would improve, therefore more people will come and business should improve as well.

We'll have to agree to disagree :)

I imagine the owner of the only car park on the main street would disagree with you as would the hotels with car parking facilities. How will their guests come and go?

I suppose the car park could be converted into a sports bar though! :)

Yes walking street in Pattaya is well known for its quaint charm and lovely restaurants in a quiet relaxed location. :)

I was in FV last night having dinner with visiting friends and dodging the traffic was a pain in the a**. Of course, I saw one idiot speeding by on his bike while holding something in one hand.
