They are like cloaks of concealment ... or tiny nations with whispering promises of anonymity ... places where you can't be found unless you want to be ... limbos between lives. Just entering one seems to allow a forbidden license. And, young women always look more beautiful there; they have thinned themselves for the experience, or they have taken up smoking in a sexy way.
