Postal Charges...

Featured Replies

Back at the beginning of April I wanted to send a Birthday Card back to the UK. I also thought it would be nice to send a couple of photo's back at the same time.

So after hunting around the local town for a birthday card for a few hours I finally found a suitable one. I wrote in the card, stuck a couple of pics in with it and headed to the Post office.

In the post office the wife took over... Now because I'd left it a little late I wanted to send it by air, so it would get there on time. So the clerk takes the letter and puts it on the scales.... He then informed us that it would cost bt1150 to send it to the UK and would be there within 7 days. Now I was shocked, considering it only cost my parents £1.05 to send me a card by air, so in thought maybe the photos were too heavy. So I removed the photos and tried again. The clerk once again put the card on the scales and informed us that it would cost bt950. Again shocked I asked (via wife) what other options there were.. we were told it was that or normal post.

In the end I opted for normal post (bt13 I think), I just couldn't justify paying bt950 to send a small card.

Now what I would like to know is... does this sound a normal price ?, were we misunderstood in some way by the clerk ? I just can't believe it would be that expensive.

totster :o

Looks like you are right... I thought it was just a communication thing.. well I'll know for next time.. :o

You should have sent it regsitered. Registered normal airmail takes about 10 days. If it's not registered it doesn't get priority. Cost 20 baht extra to regsiter it.

I sent parcels before that arrived in the Uk 4 days later.

Not EMS, just regular airmail. Cost about 70 bht per 100g.

For some reason parcels sent on a Saturday get to the Uk quicker than any other day.

That sounds way too expensive.
