Documents To Bring Step Daughter On Short Holiday To U.k

Hi I hope to bring my partner, my son ( Thai/Eng) and stepdaughter for abour 3 weeks holiday to U.K

I have all the documents for my partner, my son has a U.K passport but I have to get proof that my wife has sole custody of her child.

The childs father abandoned them very young and his wherabouts are unknown.

I will submit my stepdaughters house registration and her school records and have had them translated

We also went to the local amphur and got a kind of a formal document where my partner was interviewed in the presence of her mother and a goverment teacher known to us, as witneesses.

The document is like a question and answer type of form with a stamp of the local amphur.

I contacted the embassy and now they tell me I have to get these forms translated as well.

There are 7 papers to it and it will cost a fortune.

The document was like a standard format that they use

and I was wondering if anyone has had one translated before and if they can send me a copy so that I can edit it and send to them.

Are you sure it was the British Embassy in Bangkok who told you you need to get them translated?

I ask because when I applied for my wife and stepdaughters visas last year the checklists specifically said documents do not need to be translated. I didn't get any documents translated and wasn't asked to by the Embassy. I know they were settlement visas and not visit visas but I can't see them having different rules for different visas on something like this.

Not surprised by your comment that translation would cost a fortune, however I think I may have good news.

I found an excellent translation service on Wireless road in Bangkok, location details as follows:

Go to US embassy (on the right hand side of the road as you are walking towards Ploenchit Road), now walk towards Ploenchit, walk past the granite office tower (which was called Diethelm Tower but maybe has now changed names). Keep walking and you will quickly walk through a street market area with lots of footpath restaurants (the market is about 50 / 60 metres long).

As you come to the end of this market there is a doorway (on your right hand side) which leads quickly to a set of stairs to the next upper floor. Don't be put off by the touts on the outside footpath, just ignore them. Take the stairs up to the next floor and walk along the internal corridor to the office on the right hand side at the end of the corridor.

The office you enter doesn't look all that professional, however I've used their services many times and I've been impressed with their professionalism, their approach, their friendly discussion of what your wanting and the quality of the tranlation work. When I adopted my Thai born son (who speaks English and Thai at native speaker level) we needed many documents translated, he was impressed again and again at their ability to get the 100% correct meaning across both translations.

Their fees are quite reasonable, in fact cheap.

If you have documents which need stamping by the Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry or the Thai Interior Ministry, they an also do this for you, again at very reasonable cost and quite fast (24/48 hours).

Worth a look.
