I'm gathering info on what I need to take with me, some reports are of minimal documents required, some are of many!

I'm under retirement age, I have a 5 year old child with a Thai national, we're not married, our child has my surname on his berth certificate, I've just realised our bank book is in my wife's name so that won't help!

When I've been to Penang in the past I've needed minimal documentation and I've recently read that as long as I take our sons birth certificate I'll qualify, any recent news?

Believe a single entry non immigrant O visa is the normal issue in your situation at local Consulates.

If you can get 400k in bank account or 40k income you might want to check on extensions of stay from Immigration. You can get 60 days without the financial conditions if you need some time.

I have the same situitation.  5 year old boy with Thai lady unmarried.  I have a Bangkok Bank account in my name.

I get a multi entry Non Immigrant 'O' visa by supplying a copy of my son's birth certificate (with english translation) plus a copy of 'sufficient funds'.  In my case I supply a recent copy of a mutual fund statement.

No problem getting the visa.

That's positive, thanks for posting, I've printed the statement from the bank showing sufficient funds traveling through the account, it doesn't have a name on the statement so it could be anybody's so that's a concern for me!

Did you make an English copy of the birth certificate or did you get it done by an agent of some kind? Also, did you get your visa in Phnom Penh or elsewhere? I ask this because it's not the same everywhere is it :)
