Age = 60. Last physical -- 2 months ago -- all was well; need to lose weight, but all readings normal or close to it.

About a month ago -- after walking 9 km on a photo "hike" in Bangkok -- my feet felt a bit swollen. I attributed it to the poor shoes I was wearing at the time. A few similar but shorter walks resulted in the same. How swollen...I doubt anyone else would have noticed it even if I pointed it out. A bit painful the morning after -- mostly heel area -- would diminish rather quickly once I got up and walking around for a while.

Bought new walking shoes last week (brand -- New Balance). Pain in feet much improved, nearly gone. Very comfortable while walking.

Very minor swelling in feet...again, probably not even noticeable to someone else. Also bags under my eyes.

Any thoughts?

If I should go to the doctor -- any at Bumrungrad someone could recommend for this?

I imagine I am worrying to much about this...I can be a bit of a hypochondriac at times...but at age 60 I believe in keeping a close eye on health issues...but also don't want to get on meds that are unnecessary.

Thanks

Many causes for fluid retention that may present as bags under the eyes or swollen feet.

Most common ones are just that it may happen at times at this age; diet, salt intake too much alcohol etc..

If not accompanied by symptoms such as shortness of breath, waking up at night because of that or needing more pillows which may mean a cardiac problem, then it usually disappears.

If it persists more than a few days, worth while to get some liver function tests and some kidney functions done.

the body might swell in heat - but now is a cold season.

dring a lot of water, reduce junk food/processed food, preservatives, salt (also salty thai souses).

try to keep your legs up - on a pillow or two, when laying down, and resting your feet on a stool when seating on a chair.

foot exercises, like recommended on the airplane, will help - do them often, every hours for 5 minutes.

it might be difficult to find in thailand therapist doing manual lymphatic drainage, but even a gentle massage of legs and the whole body with oils (remaind the massage therapist to massage towards the hears, and not away from it - as is a habit in many oriental massages) will do. Also self massage - you can do it under the shower, with short, brisk, semi-circular movements on the skin using a short hair brush.

you can try any hydrotherapy treatments as well, swimming, soaking in a bath

Singha, Chang or others from the same family are probably the culprits :):D

Sorry, I don't drink alcohol at all.

I went to the doc yesterday. His advice was to relax, no big problem, simple water retention...gave a prescription and after just 1 pill it is halfway back to normal.

The culprit seemed to be a 9 km walk with bad Thai shoes that I took 2 weeks ago...just got my feet off to a bad start. He said that just 6 weeks ago my complete physical results were so good that there wasn't anything that would lead him to believe there was any problem with liver or kidney function...same for the heart.

Thanks for the replies. BTW, the good thing...finally found a doctor I like to continue seeing when needed.
